The next few weeks consisted of intense training and preparation to become an official Knight of Time. Every day, after school we would go down to the headquarters; which we later found out branched to various catacombs which were renovated and turned into training quarters, libraries, rooms full of equipment, bedrooms, an infirmary, a research computer lab and also an underground pool. The place was basically habitable with nine small flats; one for each Knight, entertainment areas and indoor plumbing. They all already lived there, but when I asked if we were going to move there as well, they told me that we weren’t ready yet. We could only go live there when we were eighteen.

Training, and the world of time travelling, became somewhere I escaped to when I got stressed. Hearing stories from the other Knights somehow calmed me down, even when the stories were a bit rough, I still enjoyed hearing them. Peter was a particularly good story teller. He told us tales of how once Mr. Hall accidentally shaved off Hitler’s moustache, how Miss Lock stole Napoleon’s knickers, or how he threw a pie at Queen Antoinette’s face, told her to eat some cake and almost got hanged. He also told us of times they almost got killed by some rogue Spek which ran out time energy and needed to steal some from someone else.

While doing that I kept in mind that I might be the next one who will encounter those same challenges or horrors, but I wasn’t scared. I looked at it as an opportunity to get out of my regular, miserable, human life and jump into something more interesting; my own adventure involving time travel.

I have to admit, I was a bit scared.

After finishing our homework at the headquarters, we’d learn self defence, hand to hand combat and martial arts to be able to fight against the Dark Arrows, if we ever got attacked. This was because we’ll never quite know where we’ll be sent on a mission. I didn’t need the training, but I attended the lessons anyway to help Jeremy and Brandon, who were quite new at combat and fighting. We also had some time to be taught about these missions, the history of the order and obviously, we had some free time which we could spend in the recreational room. We also had some one-on-one lessons with our assigned mentors, which I spent with Miss Lock. Being a knight was quite a lot of hard work, but it distracted me from the things which went on at school; Jeremy getting bullied every day, me getting mad at him for tolerating the bullies and my relationship with dad, to whom which I haven’t talked to ever since I arrived here.

But despite the fact that this order got my mind off my problems, I never really thought of how serious it really was, that I’d eventually have to go on missions, and I took it lightly. I knew I shouldn’t have done that, but did it anyways.

During the time I had with Miss Lock, she taught me how to enhance my talent of sight, since she had loads of experience. She explained how our shared talent – the talent of sight given to Seekers of Light – went to different levels of psychic time energy. Some levels were even weak enough for Brandon and Jeremy to reach since they had a very small amount of psychic time energy, but since Jeremy was a Quart and Brandon was a Lint, they had other powers so they couldn’t reach all of the levels.

The first level gives you peculiar dreams, like what the three of us get. Me, Jeremy and Brandon are connected by the forces of time which bind us together with the use of these dreams. They both get the same kind of dreams, although most of the time they don’t have the same kind of depth and detail, since they are weaker when it comes to psychic energy. Miss Monica Lock told me that the good woman might be a deceased elder; a Knight who used to serve the order but retired once someone took his or her place as a second generation Knight. She said the person visiting us in our dreams might also be one of the protectors, who are two of the four founders of the order; Catherine Bright or Edward Waltz. I also asked her whether she knew who the evil woman was and why she came to us in our dreams but she only looked at me worriedly and told me that she visited her in her dreams as well, but didn’t know who she was, how she managed to do it and why she does it. Miss Lock told me that the woman visited her regularly; taunting her about her past and showing her memories she did not want to remember or think about.
