VALERIE POV

That boy, Hunter King. He left me mesmerized for the rest of the dancing periods. When it was time to cut the cake, I saw him looking up at me and I blushed. There was something about him... I shook his face out of my mind, trying to clear my head. I could still feel the place where his lips touched, from the side of my cheek to the tip of my ear. I blushed, I sounded like a lovesick girl. I've never been in love before... I guess this is what it feels like. I shook my head to clear my mind when my mother called me over.

"Valerie! Come here we need you to meet someone." she said as she linked arms with me and pulled my over to where my father, Aidan, a man and what seemed to be his wife, a girl about a year younger than me, two teenaged boys who looked exactly the same like and older than me, and... Hunter? I wondered what he was doing over there. I shrugged it off and walked towards them with my mother. When they saw us coming they slowly ended their conversation and turned to us. I took this moment to study what everyone was wearing.

The man was wearing a navy blue suit with a silver-grey tie, and what I think was his wife was wearing a long, elegant light blue dress with sparkles on the top half. The two teenaged boys (who weren't Hunter, of course) were wearing matching white suits and a shockingly bright blue tie. Hunter was wearing a black suit with a tie the same color as my dress, which was slightly ironic. The girl was wearing a fancy halter dress with ombré sequins going down from silver to light blue to dark blue. I smiled at everyone and paid attention to what they were talking about.

"Ah, Julia! Glad to see you've brought Valerie along with you. Happy Birthday Valerie, I hope your day has been marvelous." The man said, addressing me in the process. "David and I were just talking about how this coming fall Hunter and Valerie will be going into freshman year together." my father told us, smiling. I looked at Hunter to find he was already looking at me. I blushed and looked away. David cleared his throat and nodded at me and smiled, saying "Well, Valerie, I'd like to introduce you to my three sons, Carter, Kaden, and Hunter-" he gestured his arm to each son from oldest to youngest as he said their names"-my daughter, Annabelle-" he again gestured his arm toward the girl "-and my wife, Anna." He finishes off by wrapping his arm around his wife's waist. They all greeted me happy birthday and there was chorus of "happy birthday"s and "how has it been?"s. I held out my hand to each of them and greeted "It's a pleasure and honor to meet you all. It has been pretty great being 16, finally." They then started more conversation about school.

Our school system was strange. Today, December 23rd, is my birthday and I just graduated 8th grade last June. After 8th grade, there's a block year where students get to consider their options for high school and take a break. Fortunately for me, my high school has already been decided. Since we moved here, to London from New York because of my dad's job, my parents also made sure to find a prestigious prep school for Aidan and I to go to. It's called King Academy.

I turned my attention back to the conversation and found out they were talking about how Hunter's father, David, owned King Academy. "Yes, we will make sure Valerie and Aidan settle into our school nicely and comfortably." Hunter's father and mother assured Aidan and my parents. "That's great! Maybe Hunter, Kaden, Carter, Annabelle, Valerie, and Aidan will get along well. We'll have to get you guys nice and comfy with each other, am I right?" My mother said innocently. After she said this, Hunter sent a suggestive smirk and wink my way causing me to turn into a tomato. Hunter spoke up "Yes. I think that'd be great. I'd love to get to know Valerie-" he coughs -"and um Aidan." My mother raises her eyebrows at me while I try not to blush harder than I already was.

I didn't want to be on the spotlight while blushing so I changed the subject. "I think that'd be wonderful." I told everyone. Soon after I spoke up, the parents set a date for tomorrow so Aidan and I could go school shopping with the Kings. Soon we said our goodbyes and my parents, Aidan, and I went to greet more guests.

"So that was the King family. The man, David King is one of your father's newest business partners here in London. He is the CEO of Kingsman Company and he owns King Academy. His wife, Anna is THE Anna King- the one who designs clothing from her own house  (all of her kids model for her). His children: Carter, Kaden, Hunter, and Annabelle all go to Mr. and Mrs. King's school, King Academy and are honor students and great athletes. Xavier and Alexander (the twins) are going to be Sophomores with Aidan, Hunter is going to be a Freshman with you, and Annabelle is going to be in the other building at the same school in 7th grade." my mother explained to me. I was about to reply when my father nudged us, signaling that we were approaching another guest.

"Ah, Mr. John and Mrs. Julie Queen! What a pleasure it is to see you." A man in a grey suit and mint green tie said rather loudly. He was accompanied by whom I assume are his wife and daughters. My father mumbled under his breath something about not being invited but I only heard because I was right next to him. "Yes. Mitchell, Sabrina. I am glad we ran into you." my mother spoke up, flashing a smile. Aidan and I looked at each other, puzzled. We KNEW that smile. That smile was her: 'I don't like you please go away, but I'm not going to be rude' smile. Later he mouthed to me. I nodded and looked back to the guests. As I turned my attention back to the guests and my parents, I noticed how harshly my father was glaring at the man. Oh no, this means trouble.

I hope you liked it. This took me forever and it was super long to make up for basically no update. I'll write more soon. (side note: anyone notice who the man who Valerie's father doesn't like is? I'll give you a hint: business isn't always clean when this man shows up) -E
