Timelock dictionary

In the words of Lucie Surrey:

Hello Olden reader. I bet you don't recognize some of the vocabulary I use in Timelock. So I labeled all unfamiliar words and gave you the meaning for convenience. Listed here are words, slang, and phrases, in order of appearance.

Chapter One: 

Nanochip- A technological resource that is implanted into one's brain. It is thought commanded and can do everything from calling a friend to researching the history of a golf ball.

Sleeping/Breakfast Quarters- In my apartment building, each area has a name. Note that the whole of my city is contained into one building, that is the length/width of an Olden city and has 90 floors. It also is the city. More into that later. 

(Group of) Students- From First Grade at age 5 until Thirteenth Grade at age 18, you are separated into classes based on ability and intelligence. This class is called your group of Students. 

Assessment- Every month, students take a test called the Assessment. This documents their progress and if they are ready to move up to the next class.

Service bot- a robot that takes care of all physical tasks for human convenience.

Olden- the time before 2030, when the world war broke out. After this, the world broke off all old customs, and everything from the past became Olden.

Annual Birth Celebrartion (ABC)- A date once a year celebrating the anniversary of your birth. Some families give gifts on this occasion, others do not. 

Elder- anyone born before 2000. As of 2240, only 30 are still alive- including my some-amount-of-great-grandmother.

Genetic Modification (Slang: GenMod, GM, Moddy)- a modification applied to a child in womb, by its parents to attribute a certain characteristic, such as hair or eye color, to the baby. Only one Genetic Modification allowed per child unless neccesary; such as disease-prone genes or deformities.

Holoscreen/holoboard- Holoscreen; a projector that projects a lifelike 3D image of a person/thing into a room. Holoboard; a holographic board used to write equations or presentations on with an eyescreen.

Eyescreen- Controlled by the nanochip, this is a writing implement used to write on holoboards, screens, etc. Also used to choose things in stores. 

Datachip- an app on your nanochip that can access every known source of information.

Chapter Two-  

Insta-sleep medicine- medicine that activates the nanos in my brain to shut off my concsious brain function. Works instantly, one pill works for 4 hours. Can be taken in liquid, pill, or intravenal form, in order of use

Levi-bed- floating smart-foam mattress with two 'north' magnets- on the underside of the bed and on the floor, causing them to oppose and the bed to float. 

. Med-bot- a service bot specially trained for medicine or any sort.

World-Nanochip-Monetary-Transfer-System (WNMTS, casually called MTs)- basically, money. Electronically deposited via iris-recognition to prevent theivery.  Value roughly the same as US dollar; 1$= 2MTs

Storage Cart (Cart)- in malls, stores, or any other location in the city that's not residential, there are storage carts to hold your stuff. Located on the hover-lifter grid.

Hover-Lifter- elevators that take people from one floor to another in Seattle's 90 floors.

Parental Allowance (PA)- although children move out of their parents' home and into their own dorm at age 12, they still get weekly MT allowances to live off of, the value depending on the parents'  monthly income. The average is 50MTs per week. Mine's 100; my father's a surgeon, fixing the wounds med-bots cannot, and he's paid a lot. 

Merit Money- MTs earned by children 12-18 in addition to PA by doing community service. One hour of community service gives you 3MTs to spend any way you choose.

Permissional Identity Locator (PIL)- an ID one gets at age 12 to show independence. You need to be certain ages to do certain things, and the ID proves this. For example, you need to be: 13 to dye your hair, 14 to buy your own furniture, 16 to vote on Mayors, and 18 to get a real dorm instead of a child's dorm.
