6 years earlier.
We sat together in bliss on the lush grass calmly as all the other kids were playing and running about. I noticed him turn his head slightly and stare at me, my cheeks heating up immediately.
"You know you are so, so really pretty like a pretty flower?" he said making me my cheeks even more red if it were possible. "I'm not that pretty" I giggled out.
His face turned serious and he gently grabbed my hands, making me turn to him and spoke "Mia you are beautiful and nice and sweet and that's why I like you so much" making my tiny heart flutter.
"I like you too Daniel".

"Hi!" I said to him as I approached him at the playground where we usually meet before school starts.
I was concerned when instead of my usually enthusiastic "hi" back all I got was a stern look across his face.
And then he said six words. Six. And those six words were enough to break my heart, as small as it was for the first time.
"We can't like each other anymore."
"What? Why?" I asked confused.
"Just don't speak to me anymore okay?" He simply replied back.
"Daniel what's wrong what did I do?"
And that was the last conversation we had before he turned away and walked off leaving me with thousands of questions in my head and an aching in my heart.
