When I Was One and Twenty

When I was one and twenty,
Issues collided on all fronts.
Left or right choices abound.
Yet the die had to be cast
Or the future forestalled.

When grandma was one and twenty,
She had daddy in her tummy.
When mom was one and twenty,
I was growing inside her belly.

That was the age of Y2K
When fear was everywhere.
Youths shifted courses in droves,
And labeled the quarter life crisis.

Unlike the pioneer workers of yesterday
Today's twenty something drifted in phases.
Passion, comfort or service?
Still a choice had to be made.

And in the domino of the global recession,
Survival became the norm.
Reinvention and innovation turned the game around.
Thrive or perish, conquer or languish?

I still recall the time when mom asked me point blank:
"At one and twenty do you now want to get married?"
"Nope. Study and work first."
Even with the heartaches and failures along the way,
I am happy with that choice I made.

Looking back now in my 30's,
Everything was for a reason,
In God's hand, nothing is an accident.
Have faith in Him and godly success will come.

Every little girl dreams of gorgeous Prince Charming
Including cute babies to cuddle and cherish.
But that is for the God of destiny to know and provide.
My role is to live the best life out of every moment He has granted.

Never give up on your passions and dreams.
Light it up and keep it burning.
For when the right time comes,
The harvest will all be worth it.
