August 17°

The day was a normal day. It didn't feel like the first day of school, it felt school had started months ago, and it didn't feel any special at all, not for my birthday.

I always ignored my birthdays anyways, all they were were just anniversaries of dad separation, the day he disappeared, but I also tried to ignore that, too. So all August 17 was was just a normal day, not a first day, not a birthday, and not an anniversary.

So on August 17, there were spitballs, there were bullies, there were sluts, dress codes (which, by the way, was when I realized I wasn't wearing my uniform and I had to borrow clothes) there was fights, and there was stress, just like a regular school day.

The one thing that was missing on August 17 was Jimin.

"Do you know where Jimin is today?" I asked Daemin who knew Jimin down to the core, just like I did, but we weren't friends or anything, Daemin was too "respected" to ever hang out with me.

"I'm not sure, the last time I saw him was the last day of school, he's ignored me ever since."

With a puzzled look I walked away defeated and sat at a lunch table by myself.

That's strange, because the last time I saw him was the day after the last day, he said he was going on vacation for the rest of summer, wasn't he?

The rest of the school day came without pleasure, being alone and picked on wasn't fun for me, Jimin was usually the one to guard my back. So when it was 4:59 I was already out the door of the classroom.

I reached to the doorknob of the front of the school when suddenly the bell rang. I knew that if I didn't leave any sooner, I would be trampled by 500 eager students.

I yanked the doors open and sprinted down the stairs, racing to the main front gate. I stopped and placed my hands on my knees panting like hell was above me.

In the distance, I heard the rustle of the students and the screams as some were most likely trampled. I shivered with the image in my head and finally stood up straight, placing a hand on my heart, my eyes closed, sighing in relief, "Good thing Im not one of them."

While my eyes were closed, my ears heard the sounds of a car, an expensive car, pulling up to the curb in front of me. How I knew it was expensive? The loud roar it made to get my attention, a.k.a., scaring the sh*t outta me.

It was in a bright, red color that made me have to squint to see, and windows that were tinted so the driver and passengers would not be seen, but the figure was still visible. And from what I've seen, it was a man. I curiously cocked my head as the windows gradually slid down building up the suspense that swirled in my stomach. Inside, was Jimin.

"Omo! Omo! Omo!" I shrieked with my hands over my mouth.

His head turned like that cool ex you would go for any time and his smile was so flashy, it could blind an innocent child.

"Long time no see, Kim Minah." He snickered.

I circled his car, my jaw wide open, just like my eyes. I drifted my finger across the smooth, clean surface of the car that seemed like it could be used in street racing.

"Are you some rich famous dude or something?" I teased ironically. "Or did you hook up with some billionaire's daughter?" I grinned.

He chuckled for a bit, but suddenly stopped.

I looked up at him and saw him staring at the crowd of students whispering to each other and pointing at the car and him.

"Get in." He demanded sternly. Without a word, I quickly jogged to the passengers seat and flung open the door. With a plop, I fell into the seat and the door shut behind me. He stepped on the gas and we zoomed onto the street.

"Jimin...!" My voice gradually grew louder as the car went faster. "Are you trying to get a ticket?!" I nervously eyed the speed meter as it progressed pass 50, then 75 and juggled between 90 and 100 kilometers per hour.

After speeding past a few red lights and dodging a few cars cruising by, he slowed.

"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN US KILLED! LAST TIME I CHECKED YOU DIDNT EVEN KNOW HOW TO DRIVE." I screamed with my hands stretched outwards and my body pushed back the farthest I could push myself.

He smiled and pulled his wallet out of his pocket and flipped it open to his drivers licenses. "I never said I didn't know how."

I looked up at him with amazement. "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN THIS WHOLE TIME?! YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU GOT YOU DRIVERS LICENSES, LET ALONE EVEN CONTACTED ME. SO WHY NOW?!"

He frowned nervously as we slowed in front of a stoplight. "Look Minah, I'm sorry for not talking to you over summer," He removed his sunglasses from his same brown innocent eyes I remembered from years ago, "but I did it." He looked back at me with a dreamy smile. His eye smile was the only thing that lifted my spirits. How could I have lived without them all summer?

"What did you do?" I asked him with a quieter voice, instantly forgiving him.

"I achieved my dreams." He replied with a wider smile.

"Your dreams?" I asked with a confused expression.

"Someone finally noticed me." He blurted another confusing answer.

"Someone finally noticed you-?" A car honk interrupted me.

Jimin looked up at the green stop light and quickly took his foot off the breaks.

"What do you mean, someone finally noticed you?"

"Nevermind I'll tell you later, but you're gonna be late for work if you keep distracting me."

"Heh? Im distracting you, yeah right." I retorted sarcastically with a snicker and an eye roll.

We turned a few lights and down the street was the cafe/tea house. Jimin parked by the curb and went out of the car to open the door for me.

"As for your last question," He continued.

"Which question, I asked a bazillion questions." He took my hand and lifted me out of the car, walking me the cafe where he usually would wait for me while I worked. Occasionally I would give him free samples while he waited for me but that was only when I felt nice. So because he was here everyday I was, the staff was quite fond of him, so he would get discounts for his drinks anyways.

He could have been working too, but everyone knows he didn't need to have that extra money.

"Why I came back?"

I looked at him waiting for a response.

"It was for," he opened the cafe door. With a wild roar from my co workers and random customers, my eyes quickly shifted from Jimin to them,

"Happy Birthday Minah!" I jumped and landed a few centimeters out the door and that when the hiccups started.

"It was for your birthday." Jimin continued his sentence while smiling innocently at me, patting my back to cure my hiccups.

I looked up at the balloons that was scattered across the room. The huge banner in the middle was the one that caught my eyes. The words on it were the words that brought tears in my eyes, the words I thought I would never see or hear. "We love you Minah"
