Why didn't I listen to them? Why is it I can't trust them?
The trees are a blur. The ground is wet, and the scent of fresh rain hangs in the air. I can hear them close behind me, their footsteps heavy as they slam against the soft moss. They're getting closer. I'm going to die, this is it.
I long for an opening. A break in the trees, a clearing, any sort of escape. Instead, I am enclosed by trees, leaves, branches...
My bare feet are suddenly no longer on wet moss; they are on cold rock. I am still running when I hit the huge wall of mist. And then, there's nothing. No ground beneath my feet. My arms are flailing as I fall down the waterfall.
Thank God. I breathe a sigh of relief. This is better than I could've hoped for.
After all, there is only so far you can run, before you are forced to fly.
