Faith's POV

I blinked open my eyes, groaning. I raised a hand up to rub my pounding head. Once my vision cleared, I saw that I wasn't alone. I pushed myself up into a sitting position, and saw other people in the room with me.

I was laying on a bed in the lab. Major Gray was sleeping in a chair beside my bed, with his shoulder wrapped up in bandages and his arm in a sling. There were a couple other people who were injured, laying in different beds. I looked up as the door to the lab quietly opened, and in walked Nick with the other one doctor whose name I had learned was Doctor Jin.

Seeing I was awake, Nick's smile brightened up. He came over to my bed and sat on the end of it. I groaned, and reached my hand up to my head to feel bandages wrapped around my forehead. I looked back to Nick.

"What happened?" I asked quietly. My throat was sore.

"Red's men invaded our base." Nick frowned.

Suddenly all of the events that had happened came flooding back to me. Red coming into my room, and hitting my head with some hard object. That was also when I remembered hearing Esther's scream. "Is Esther okay?!" I panicked.

Nick looked down, not meeting my gaze. "Esther was injured my one of Red's men. She's alive... But we don't know if she'll stay alive. She got shot in the stomach. We were able to help her and keep her alive, but we don't know if she can stay alive."

Tears filled up in my eyes, and I used the back of my hand to quickly wipe my tears away as much as I could. "Can I see her...?" I asked quietly.

Nick nodded, and stood up. He pushed my wheelchair over to my bed, and helped me sit down in the wheelchair. He pushed me out of a lab, and pushed me into his room.

"Why are we here?" I asked.

"I... I need to explain something to you before you see Esther..." Nick trailed off as he stopped my wheelchair beside his bed. He sat down on the bed in front of me.

I stared at him, worry evident on my face. He was going to tell me bad news. I know he was. I just nodded for him to continue.

"Esther is still only a little child, and the chances that she will survive is very low..." Nick started.

Tears filled up in my eyes. "W-What are you saying?"

"I'm saying she's going to be in pain until she dies. I'm leaving this choice up to you to decide, but even Professor Xavier suggested to just end her pain sooner. So what I mean is that I think we should consider... Ending her life sooner so she isn't suffering..." Nick quietly said.

My heart just shattered at the news. I couldn't hold them back anymore. Tears poured down my face, and Nick engulfed me in a tight hug. He didn't even care that I was getting his shirt wet from all of my tears.

"She's just so young...! She shouldn't have to go! But I don't want her to suffer..." I sobbed uncontrollably. I didn't want Esther to die.

"I know... It's hard." Nick mumbled to me while rubbing my back.

"I-If we do kill her... How will we do it? Will it be painless for her?" I asked through my sobbing.

"Yes, of course it would be painless. There are multiple painless ways she can go. Like for example, if we put a bullet through her head it will kill her instantly... Or we can give her pills. If we give her pills will it not only be painless, but you can be right beside her and spend time with her before she does die." Nick reassured.
