Chapter Nine
Severus Snape's POV
Originally, I was very upset with the Headmaster. Why send me to perfect little Potter's home? Wasn't it clear enough that I didn't care for the boy at all? However, Dumbledore was insistent, and I'll admit, I was curious about the second magical signature in the house. There shouldn't have been another witch or wizard there. We had checked the family several times, and this was strange. However, when I saw that midnight black kitten transform into an exhausted young Lily, I was sent back years ago, when I pined after a girl I knew I could never have.
As I carried the girl, who must've been an Evans... I mean Potter, towards the apparition point, I could already see some of the damage that vile family had inflicted upon her. No one knew that there was another child. The whole world knew the story, but it appears the whole world was wrong. Potter, the insufferable little brat, had only a scar on his forehead, but hers extended down her face. Her hair was black when he first saw it, but in the dark moonlight, he could tell that it was a dark auburn, like a mix of Lily and Potter's. She was skinny-too skinny- and he worried that she hadn't been getting enough to eat. Worst of all was the visible marks. Who could do this to a defenseless child?!?
After I Apparated us to just outside Hogwarts, I could sense that she was having a negative reaction to the transportation. Unfortunately, however, I didn't have the potions needed. Her big eyes looked lost and lonely as they shifted through various colors. I smirked at that - Tonks would love her. She passed out, and I took the opportunity to carry her inside and get Poppy.
Once I laid her down, she woke up. This time, her eyes the same death-curse green as her mothers, before settling on purple again. Poppy fussed over her, and I left them to get to Dumbledore and explain what had happened.
"She will not be returning! She has a magical signature, she can stay here, but I will not allow her to stay with those vile people! Frankly, I fear sending Potter back there, as well." Dumbledore simply smiled his half smile and gazed at me over his half-moon glasses. "I think she is a Potter." My last statement was quiet, reverent at the memory of Lily.
"But how?" His surprise shocked me. I thought that he knew everything, that he was always 10 steps ahead, or more. "Lily only had one child. Harry doesn't have a twin!"
"I believe, Professor, that this girl is younger. Born after they went into hiding. Never recorded in any books for fear of others finding out their location." We looked at each other for a long while before we heard a quiet knock on the door.
"Enter," Dumbledore bellowed. The door swung open to reveal a very confused Potter boy. The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them.
"Do you have a sister?"
