Rosalinda's POV
For the past week or so, I've been trying to figure out what's so interesting about Alec that I can't get him out of my mind.
It's been about a week and I'm still just as confused as before. But it makes no sense. There's absolutely NO reason for me to not hate him...right..
I sigh and just drop my head into my pillow. It's so annoying not knowing the answer, especially if it's been consuming your entire mind for the past several days.
"Goddamnit, why are you hard to figure out?", I mumble to myself.
"Talking to yourself already?", I turn around to see Alec standing against the doorway,"Not exactly surprised."
"Well, how much longer am I supposed to live in solitude? Because if I have to stay like this for the rest of my life, just save me the misery and kill me now.", I roll my eyes.
He smirks,"Unfortunately, I can't exactly do that."
I walk up to him only to return his half smile,"It can be our little secret."
There's a brief pause between us until I break the silence.
"So, why do you always come here anyway?", I ask.
"Aro's orders.", he replies succinctly.
"Oh so you don't genuinely want to spend time with me?", I make a sarcastic puppy dog face.
"I think we both know the answer to that.", he tells me, cracking a smile.
I laugh,"Yeah, whatever. So, what are we doing today?"
"You pick.", he leads me down the hall.
"Awesome. Let's go cliff diving and then cause havoc in the town, slaughtering 20 people.", I say in a mock-serious tone.
He turns around and stares at me.
"It's a joke.", I begin,"Ever heard of one?"
"I have now.", He says as if he's talking to a child.
"Good. You should get used to it.", I say and catch up to him.
"I don't know.", I responds,"Try telling these jokes to Jane. Then, I'll consider it."
"She doesn't scare me.", I stop in my tracks,"And neither do you."
He stops as well and turns around to face me,"You really need to reconsider your choices if that's what you think."
"The worst thing you can do is kill me.", I smile,"Death's not all that scary to me....as you can tell."
Before he has a chance to respond, I walk past him and out of the front doors.
Thankfully it's cloudy so there's no need to wear a giant black cloak like usual.
I desperately want to go outside and explore the town so that's exactly what I do as soon as I take my first step on the ground.
The town looks a lot more like a village in a sense that everything is quite old fashioned. There aren't many modern stores, most of the are vendors; and everything looks hand made.
This is something that keeps me sane in Volterra; the authenticity of everything that I lay my eyes on.
It feels as if, just for a brief moment, I'm happy.
"How often do you guys leave the castle to actually explore this?", I ask Alec when he's caught up to me.
"Not so often anymore.", he says whilst dodging a couple of little kids who are running with dolls and a wooden plane.
I admire a beautiful dream-catcher, "Why? No offense, but it's a lot better than being stuck in the castle all day, no matter how beautiful it is."
"We've already seen it when we first came here.", he says.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me.", I burst out,"That was like a bajillion years ago! You DO realize that things have changed since then. By like...a lot."
"I haven't really cared enough to look.", he responds.
I laugh,"And you think I'M crazy."
He gives me a small smile,"I stand by what I said."
"Well, you're delusional.", I pick up a wooden bracelet with a pink and white stone in the middle,"Either that, or there's nothing wrong with being a little crazy every now and then."
We walk down the streets for awhile without saying much of anything.
"So.", I begin,"What DO you guys do for fun?"
"Oh, you know, the usual. Go to strip clubs, go the the latest parties with drunk college students.", he says in a monotonous voice.
I stop in my tracks and just stare at him, dumbfounded.
He looks at me with a flicker of amusement in his eyes,"It's a joke. Seem familiar?"
Then I laugh,"Nice one, Volturi. Beat me at my own game."
"Won't be the first time.", he tells me.
"Aww, don't get your hopes up.", I respond,"You have NO idea what I can do."
He leans in close to me,"I think I have an idea."
It's when he's this close when I realize how different I feel when I'm around him.
But it's a good different.
He makes me feel...content.
When I'm with Alec, I don't feel angry or annoyed at the fact that I'm forced to stay here. He makes it seem worthwhile.
"You ready to head back?", he asks, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Umm..yeah, sure.", I say and rub my arms.
He narrows his eyes,"What's wrong, Rosalinda?"
"Nothing. And you can call me Rosie....that's what they used to call me.", I tell him quietly, not daring to look into his eyes because I know the moment I do, my suspicions will be true.
I'm in love with Alec.
