Walking down a cracked sidewalk was a young woman. She had her black hair pulled up in a bun and her black eyes sparkling with joy. She waved at everyone she saw and talked to a few people that she past. The woman was heading to the elementary school to pick up her six year old son. The woman soon spotted the large wrought iron gate that surround the property of the school. She pasted underneath the entrance of the gate into the large school yard. The school grounds had lush green grass, bushes trimmed perfectly into squares, and circles, flowers lined both sides of the pathway. THe school itself was a large three story tannish brown building, with maroon colored shutters. Standing in the courtyard was other parents waiting for their children to get out. Soon the bell rang and out walked her six year old son, Ethan.
His large blue eyes widened, "MAMA!" He yelled rushing over to her as fast as his little legs carried him.
Martha smiled at him before bending down and carefully scooped him into her arms Ethan just smiled and wrapped his arms around her neck.. Martha turned and walked down the road heading home. Ethan was talking about everything he did and she listened and nodded. Martha soon entered their neighborhood Ethan waved his hands quickly and happily at their neighbors all of whom waved and smiled back at the estanticed boy and his young mother.
"Martha, hi." a voice called.
The young woman turned and waved to the man across the street he had blond hair with a few gray strands, and wise grey eyes with a few wrinkles around them his smile making his laugh lines more pronounced, "Hi Ronald."
"Hey little man."
"Hi, Mr. White."
"So Martha anything interesting tonight."
"Yes Ethan and I are going to watch disney movies tonight."
"So cool. Well I won't keep you."
Martha smiled and said bye before carrying Ethan inside. Once inside Martha set Ethan down and watched as he raced upstairs and ran back down holding a stuffed bird, "Shu wanted to watch it with us."
Martha laughed and nodded. She walked over to the living room and grabbed a DVD and set it in the DVD player before grabbing the blanket from the back of the couch and covered him with it. Martha kissed his forehead and walked out of the living room and to the kitchen. While she was standing there cooking her mind running with thoughts about her husband, today is the anniversary of his disappearance.. She was in the middle of cooking when Ethan walked in, "Mama, Mr. White is talking to someone who might need help."
Martha looked confused before turning the oven on low before walking into the livingroom. She moved the blinds and looked out to see a man limping around and Ronald was trying to speak to him. She gasped when the man jumped and attacked Ronald. She quickly pulled Ethan to her and held his head to her making sure he couldn't see. She watched as the man attacked Ronald ripping him apart while he laid there screaming and more walked down the street attacking the people in their yards. Martha released her grip on the blinds letting them close before letting Ethan go.
She raced to the door and locked it before turning to Ethan, "Honey go and pack some of your things. Okay and don't look out your window."
Ethan nodded and walked up the stairs. While he was up there Martha raced to the basement and grabbed some boxes before racing up the stairs. She grabbed the first aid kit, blankets and pillows, and a photo album. She closed the box before setting it beside the garage door. She then raced upstairs and ran into her room and packed some clothes. She even grabbed more blankets.
She walked into Ethan's room and saw him with Shu, a backpack, and a little duffle. She smiled and picked him up before racing down the steps. She set him down, before slowly walking to the garage door. She opened it and looked in before smiling, a sigh escaping her lips glad that she had shut it last night.
