Alkira's pov -

Everyone was enjoying lunch. Rose too was looking happy as she was the center of attention. Samira was sitting next to Daimen and both were engaged in small talks and eating quietly. Anyone who looked at her could easily tell that she was at ease. She still was not her usual self but it was good that at least she was making progress, Baby steps are important no matter how long you have to walk. The atmosphere was light and filled with joy.

But there was something amiss and I knew what it was. I made a plate of fresh fruits taking mango, kiwi, and oranges only. I stood up and left the table. I approached the door and noticed that it was slightly open. Taking a sneak peek I saw his slumped shoulders and defeated look.

Slowly I went inside and sat beside him. I waited for a few seconds for him to acknowledge my presence. He didn't say a word but silent tears rolled down his cheeks. I set the tray aside, turned, and crouched in front of him. I took his hands in mine and gave them a gentle squeeze. He finally lifted his head and stared into my eyes. His eyes were red due to crying. I can read all the unasked questions in his eyes and answer them easily.

But I won't, not before he asks them first. He hides his emotions deeply. He keeps it tightly locked inside and when it becomes extreme he tells me and sometimes not even then. He needs to learn to open his heart. It is not healthy to keep everything inside. If this goes on his emotions would burst one day suddenly and hurt an innocent. What's more, he will regret it deeply as well.

And I think Rose is the key that will open up his heavily guarded heart.

"So now she will also call you mom? Her mom?"

"Yes."

"Then what about me? Will you no longer love me? Will you not come to me in the middle of the night to soothe me when I am having a nightmare? Will you abandon me? Will you..." poor guy could not continue and just sobbed out loud. I got up and took his shaking body in my arms. Patting his back lightly, I let him weep. It needs to be done, When he calmed down a little I spoke softly.

"No, Adam. I will always love you no matter what. I will always be there whenever you need me. I will be just a breath away. You don't have to worry about anything, especially, me leaving you. It will never happen."

"But you have Rose now. You won't have time for me."

"I will always have time for you. Always. I promise."

"But you will love her more."

"She is younger than you. You also saw how weak she is and injured too so she needs some extra little care but that does not mean that I will love you any less."

It is necessary for him to understand the fact and accept that my love is not limited. A mother's love can never be measured. It is endless. It cannot be separated into quantities and given to anyone in folded packets. A mother's love is unbiased. She won't choose between her children.

"You will love us both?"

"Yes. In fact, you have to help me."

"Me?"

"Yes"

"How?"

"You see, Rose is younger than you. She does not know anyone or anything about this place, pack members. I am busy with my duties and I can't be with her whenever she needs my help. So, I need someone to look after her. Will you help me?"

"But why should I help her? She is taking you away from me?"

"She is not taking me away from you. You will be in my heart and I will be in yours, forever. Nobody can take your place." I lifted his left hand with mine and placed it over his chest where his heart lies.

"Nobody can ever take anyone's place when they already have one here."

"But why should I help her?"

"You remember how I was with you all the time after I saved you. You needed someone to help you, to take care of you, and I stayed. Nobody asked me to do that but I did. You know why?"

"No."

"When I came to this pack I was unconscious, weak, and severely wounded. Luna Helen took care of me as if I was her own. She told me that when she saw me she didn't see my bruises or any other thing. She saw that I needed someone's love and she gave me the same without asking anything in return. She did not help me out of pity or sympathy. No, her love was unconditional." I continued softly.

"When I saw you I couldn't stop myself to help you. I am not asking you for anything in return. I just want you to experience how it feels when you give. Rose too was a rogue. Her pack was killed. She was the only one who escaped. Right now she needs someone to help her to love her to protect her." I waited for a second and then asked the question that matters the most.

"So can you be the person she needs?"

I asked not taking my eyes off of his glistening orbs that were filled with sincerity and determination.

"Yes. I will protect her. I always wanted a little sister to take care of. I will be her big brother and scare away anyone who will dare to harm her." He swore.

"That is like my boy. Now, eat your fruits and go find her. Make friends with her, play with her, just be happy both of you and take care of each other."

"Okay, Mom."

I kissed his forehead and left the room. Now that this little dilemma was solved I can focus on the bigger problem.
