What if it wasn't over just yet.

The dazzling sun shone rays down into the warm air, smoke raised into the atmosphere. The trees and grass were still as the hot day dragged on. People would complain about the heatwave, saying it was lasting too long, but not for someone who had constant heat within them. Literally.

Kayleigh had discovered her powers a few years ago in high school, after soon discovering five other girls with powers. The ability of fire came with great danger, but also beauty. Astrid, her best friend, was one of the girls with powers, the power of invisibility. This was only at first though, as her powers developed she was able to control nature, a dream come true to an outdoor-loving girl like Astrid.

Jared strode out into the sun, shielding his eyes from the blinding light.

"Burger, Jared?" Andy asked, jabbing sizzling meat with a pair of tongs.

"Sure." He smiled, the smell of cooking meat making his stomach grumble.

"Make sure to save me one!" Kayleigh called from her sun-lounger.

"You've already had two." Andy groaned. Kayleigh ignored him and returned to relaxing in her bikini. Natsu walked into the garden and towards the barbecue with a plate of patties.

"I've got your veggie burgers here, Astrid!" He called. Astrid peered up from making a daisy chain amongst colonies of flowers.

"I'll be there in a second!" She shouted, gathering up her daisy chains. Astrid skipped over to the barbecue and held out a daisy chain.

"This is for you!" Astrid grinned, handing it to Jared.

"Thank you." He smiled, sheepishly placing it on his head.

"I didn't realise we had daisies growing." Andy pondered, peering into the garden.

"We didn't, I made them myself." Astrid smiled, admiring her pale hands.

"Where is my burger?" Kayleigh got out from her rest position and inspected the sizzling meat. Andy chuckled at her and placed a burning hot burger into a bun and passed it to Kayleigh. She smiled in approval and squirted ketchup onto the meat.

"Isn't this heat lovely!" She smiled, strutting back towards her seat.

"Not all of us are pretty much made of fire already!" Jared moaned, taking a bite into his burger.

After a big battle with people that wanted to use the girls for their powers, they discovered Kayleigh's long lost brother (and Astrid's lover) Jared. After the girls decided to go their separate ways, Kayleigh and Astrid joined forces and decided to live together, along with Astrid's brothers Natsu and Andy. They lived a simple life together, hiding the girls secrets and trying to live normal lives.

A little later that afternoon they were all gathered around the outside bench, chatting and laughing. Things were simple and easy for them, they had jobs to keep them going, most importantly they had each other.

"On our first real date, I bought her a blueberry muffin, just like when we first met." Astrid blushed as Jared re-told some of his favourite memories after returning home to Kayleigh.

"That reminds me, we have some in the cupboard for pudding! I'll go get them." Natsu said, disappearing into the kitchen.

"I miss the girls, and the adventures we had together." Kayleigh sighed, looking at the clear blue sky.

"Me too, I hope they are doing okay now, it's been ages since we last spoke to them." Astrid agreed, playing with a daisy. A cold breeze blew past, making them all shiver and the bushes rustle.

"Looks like it's finally starting to cool down." Andy smiled.

"How strange, this heatwave is supposed to last the whole week!" Kayleigh moaned. Natsu walked out with a plate of blueberry muffins, Astrid's eyes lit up.

"Thank you, Natsu!" She grinned, grabbing one and putting a piece into her mouth.

"It's getting a bit cold out here." Natsu said, looking up at the sky. A grey cloud appeared from nowhere and slowly began making its way across the clear sky.

"We've never had such a change in weather since Sam..." Kayleigh paused and looked up at Astrid who had stopped eating her muffin.

"Sam." She whispered, looking up at the grey cloud.

"Why would she be here?" Jared asked.

"Who knows, we made an agreement to not see each other too much in case people got suspicious." Kayleigh said, her eyes not leaving the progressing clouds. Tiny raindrops started falling onto the table.

"Rain?" Andy said, looking up.

"Let's go inside." Natsu suggested. Astrid grabbed the plate of muffins and followed her friends into the house.

Suddenly, the raindrops increased and turned into a downpour.

The doorbell rang. Kayleigh and Astrid looked at each other and nodded slightly. The boys stood back while they went to the door. Kayleigh opened the door to a figure standing in front of them, completely dry yet misery was plastered to her face.

"Sam!" Astrid smiled in joy to see her old friend.

"I have to speak with you two. Somethings happened." Sam said, her voice monotone.

The same energy they felt two years ago in high school rekindled inside them and they knew. Their 'superhero' story wasn't over yet.
