My ears were the first of my senses to start working again. A slow but regular beep sounded faintly to my left, footsteps from further in front of me faded as someone walked away from wherever I was. I felt something warm and comforting on my hand, it took a while for me to realise what it was, a hand a little larger than mine, fingers curled around my motionless hand. It twitched slightly as my fingers threaded into theirs, a sense of safety swam through me as I recognised whose hand it was. Tyler. He was here, I wasn't alone.
"Rosie." His deep voice sounded hopeful. I slowly peeled my eyes open, to be blinded by a large circular light above me, I squinted and looked to my right. There he was, he was blurry but I could make out his dark hair and pale skin. My lips curled into a smile, letting him know I could hear him.
"Rosie, how are you feeling?" He sounded panicked. I opened my mouth but I couldn't say any words, my throat was so dry and hurt when I tried to speak one word.
"Here." Tyler put a plastic cup in front of me and bought a straw to my lips. The water felt cool and soothing down my throat, replenishing me. My vision started to clear up and I could see Tyler's deep brown eyes. I also noticed something new, a cut all the way down his cheek, it looked cleaned up but it was still crimson with blood.
My memories started flooding back. Being chased. Running. Strong claws pulling me back. It was so dark and I was alone. The creature roaring at my face, a scream leaving my mouth but no sound came out. How did I survive. Tyler.
"Can you speak now?" Tyler asked interrupting my thoughts.
"I think so." I croaked. Tyler grinned and shuffled closer to my bed.
"I'm so sorry I left you alone, I should have at least walked you home, I didn't know," He trailed off.
"Did something attack me?" I asked.
"Yes, and I could have stopped it," Tyler looked at my puzzled face "I know I have a lot of explaining to do."
"Where am I?" I asked, suddenly becoming very aware of the room I was in. I thought I was in a hospital room but it was a lot darker. I scanned the walls and noticed they were made from very big bricks, they looked slightly damp and moist. The tubes that were attached to my arms led to a bag of some sort of light blue liquid and a machine that was keeping track of my heartbeat.
"The medical room," He paused as I stared blankly at him "There is a lot I haven't been telling you, in fact a whole other world that you have no idea would ever exist, but now it's time that I tell you everything, no more secrets, I promise." Tyler's words were serious and I could tell he meant everything he said.
Footsteps approached the room I was in and a large man stood in the doorway.
"Good she's awake!" The man boomed, his voice echoing off the ancient walls. Tyler and I must have been speaking very quietly as our voices hadn't echoed. He strode into the room and stood to the left of my bed. He had a large dark beard that had not been kept very clean or tidy, he had large deep brown eyes that stared at me with joy. A mane of hair covered his head and rested on his huge shoulders. "Rosie is it?" I nodded, a little intimidated by the large man.
"No need to be frightened, Rosie, I'm Francis the physician, or doctor, around here." Francis grinned.
"She's only just woken up, but she seems to be doing a lot better." Tyler said. His eyes still on me, not at all aware that a very large man had just come in.
"Good, you do look a lot better than when I first saw you, in such a state you were, blood, bruises and cuts everywhere." Francis looked at the machine and turned some of the dials and switches.
"Francis is the best doctor, you're very lucky." Tyler smiled.
"I'm still really confused about what happened, I have so many questions."
"I'll answer as many of them as I can." He encouraged.
A whole new world was opened up to Rosie that day. She was introduced to a group of incredibly strong people who fought and kept extremely dangerous creatures away from the mundane world. However, something had gone very wrong and some of the creatures were escaping and somehow entering the mundane world, attacking innocent people. Rosie had to join forces with these people and train to help fight them and protect the world, but a much stronger force was stopping them.
