Clara ran to the kitchen to pick up the phone. It was probably Carol or James checking up on her. I heard a few yes’s and thankyou’s and then the phone was put down. A few seconds later, A bouncing Clara jumped into the room, a massive smile plastered on her heart-breakingly cute face. She sauntered towards me and plonked herself down on my lap.

“Guess who that was?” She whispered into my hair. I shivered at her warm breath.

“You tell me.” I whispered back, grazing my nose along her jaw line.

She tilted her head to face me, the grin still moulded onto her face. “The police. A man called Guy Jacobs was found guilty of murder. A woman he killed yesterday. His finger prints match up to those on the gun. He’s gone Matt, He’s finally gone.” She smiled again and I grinned back at her.

“Thank God.” I let out a sigh of relief and I really did thank God. “You know. I didn’t break-up with you because I wanted to Claire bear.” She nodded and sniffed.

“You see I received some threats of my own.” I looked away from her face. I felt so guilty for putting her through what I did and looking back I know now, that I made a stupid mistake. “Clara forgive me. The guy, he said he would kill you if I ever spoke to you again. So I broke up with you. I didn’t want to ever hurt you, let alone breakup with you. It hurt me so much, saying the words. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I swear I will never leave you again. I’m here as long as you want me. I promise. I love you.” Both of us were now snivelling and crying like a pair of babies.

“It’s okay, I understand. I love you too. Just, Please, never leave me again.” Her head fell into my chest as her hand cradled my neck and she sobbed.

“Never. I swear. I’m so sorry I hurt you.” I lifted her face in my hands and bored my eyes into hers. I close the distance between our lips and kissed her tenderly, absorbing every inch of her and pulling her closer. I never realised how much I needed Clara until she was gone, out of my life. I had missed her more than anything in the world and she was the only thing that mattered in that moment. I willingly swore to myself, I would never take her for granted again.

Clara and I went to my house a while later and sat on the sofa, spending the whole afternoon chatting and catching upon what we had been up too. It’s amazing how much happens in five days.

“I’m so glad you came to your senses Matt, otherwise I might not have been able to give you your Christmas present.” She winked.

“You already bought me a Christmas present?”I  looked at her, surprised and a small smile turned up my lips.

“Of course I did, what else would I but in Oxford street.” She giggled and laid her head on my chest.

“Oh, I can imagine it was torture, all the clothes and shoes....” I grinned.

“You know how it is.” She grinned back at me and leaned in further to my chest. I slowly kissed her on the head, encircling her in my safe arms.

“Hey do you want to watch a film?” She asked, swivelling around to face me.

“Sure what do you fancy watching?” I got up and scanned through the dvd’s next to the flat screen.

“I got this new film, it’s called remember me. It’s got Robert Pattinson in it?” she winked and I rolled my eyes at her.

“Typical girls..” I mumbled.

“Get used to it.” She kicked me in the bum and surprised, I toppled over onto the floor. “Oh gosh! Sorry, I didn’t mean to actually push you over.” She chuckled and clasped her hands over her mouth.

“Clara Ambroise. I have told you too many times not to mess with me. Now you will pay!” I grinned evilly and wriggled my eye brows at her.

Suddenly I grabbed her thighs and hoisted her off the ground, chucking her over my  left shoulder.

“Matt! Put me down!” She shouted and pounded my fists into his back. I just chuckled. She may have been acting mad, But I could hear the amusement in her voice.

“Never.” I laughed again and made my way outside, her still on my shoulder. We came to the pool and I knew exactly what I was about to do.

“Matt wait please, these shoes were expensive!” I glanced at her Ugg boots and decided she was telling the truth. I pulled them off quickly before chucking her into the pool. She screamed as she went through the air and hit the water with a slash. She surfaced and looked extremely mad.

“Matt, what the hell. It’s bloody Christmas!” She said, shivering and wrapping her arms around herself.

“Relax Claire bear. I’ll keep you warm.” She looked confused and I wiped my zip up hoodie off, splashing into the icy water. Before I surfaced, I swam beneath her and grabbed her legs, flipping them up so she fell on her back. She was right, it was freezing. We both surfaced again and I took in a the crabby expression on her cute little face. I swam towards her and wrapped my arms around her waist.

Leaning in closer I whispered. “Claire. Don’t be mad.” She shivered and smirked at me. She held the act well, but she always failed and gave in to a laugh eventually.

“Matt. We are now sopping wet in a freezing cold pool. In our clothes!” She pouted and frowned at me, making the face of  a stubborn toddler.

“Relax Clara. The waters not as bad now.” The water hadn’t changed temperature, but my body was adjusting to the cold.

“Please can we get out now. I need a hot shower.” She nodded her head enthusiastically towards the house.

“Fine. Come on then spoil sport.” I winked and tugged her towards the edge of my pool.

I carefully helped Clara up the steps before making my own way up. I was two steps away from the top when Clara’s foot suddenly flew in front of my face and hit my chest. I lost balance and  back into the water. She snorted and ran away whilst laughing. She was do going to pay!

I hopped out of the water and made my way to the house, closing the door on the way in. Slowly, I stepped through the kitchen and up the stairs to the laundry room. I grabbed a towel, stripped off my polo and jeans, then wrapped the towel around my soggy boxers. Careful not to make any noise, I quietly shut the door and crept along to my room, guessing that that was where Clara was.

I creaked open the door and half stepped in scanning my eyes around the room. Not finding anything, I checked all the other guest bedrooms, searching for my payback. After I had checked all the rooms on the upper floor, I crept down the stair case and went to the living room. Clara was not in here. I had looked in all of the rooms in the house and she was still nowhere in sight.

“Clara, come out now.”I was slightly worried to be honest. I could have sworn I had checked everywhere. I didn’t hear any movement. “I’m serious Clara...IF YOU DON’T COME OUT IN THE NEXT TEN SECONDS I’M CALLING THE POLICE!” I made sure I shouted loudly enough for her to hear if she was the other side of the house. I heard footsteps behind me and a very timid, wet looking Clara walked up to me.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

“I thought you were mad at me for hiding.” She grimaced.

“Why would I be mad. I just wanted to find you.” I chuckled and pulled her into me. She rested her freezing hands on my bare chest, causing me to jump. “Claire, we should probably get you that shower,” I laughed “Your freezing.” I pulled her towards the stairs.

“That sounds nice.” She closed her eyes and drowsily slumped up the stairs. She might’ve fallen over if it weren’t for my arms holding her up. I reached the bathroom and turned on the water.

“Wait here, I’ll get you a towel.” I ran across the landing to the laundry room and grabbed her a cream towel. I trundled back to the bathroom and chucked her the towel. She mumbled and thanks and I left her to her shower.
