Ellie's Pov
This was not going to end well. Not for me and certainly not Cole.
" Cole honey. C'mon our flight leaves soon." Sarah smiles sympathetically. Cole doesn't take his eyes off me.
" She is not spending days with Liam." Cole sighs. " Look Ellie, don't miss school I'm sure Liam can handle a puppy by himself. " He walks over and takes my hands.
" Actually Cole he cannot. Now Liam and Ellie are impressive students and they can surely mange a few days off. ." Mrs. Brennan puts her hands on her hips. " Cole you have suffered a great loss and you're not thinking straight. Let's leave before you say-" She stops and gives him the 'look'. "- or do something you regret." She then turns to Liam and starts giving him the puppy details.
Cole huffs and starts walking to the car. Pulling me along with him. We stop just before we reach the door. I feel the anger inside me building, Who was he to decide what I do? But it instantly deflates when I see the look in his eyes. The sadness is overwhelming and hug him.
" Cole... tell me what to say. Please let me help you." I pull away and look at him. Cole stares back with a helpless look.
" Don't say anything." With that he pulls me back to him, only tighter this time. While we were having our moment I didn't notice Sarah behind us.
" Cole, honey we have to go now." She says in a gentle voice. I feel Cole nod his head.
" Ellie.. Liam isn't who you think." Cole whispers to me.
" Cole I make my own decisions." I pull away. But Cole looked so sad I leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek. " I'm puppy-sitting. That's all." I smile reassuringly. Cole gets in the car but not before giving a hard glare to Liam who smiled and waved back.

Cole's Pov
" I'm puppy-sitting. That's all." Ellie smiles but it does nothing to reassure me. I have to leave for my aunt's funeral but leaving her with him is not going to end well. Liam will surely make a move on her. I get in the car anyway and I watch as Ellie becomes smaller in the distance. I see Liam walk over and take her hand though.
I take a deep breath and close my eyes. Trying to not let the anger consume me.
" Want to talk about it?" Sarah always seems to know what buttons to push. " About your aunt or why you are so adamant about Ellie not even looking at Liam."
" I don't want to talk" I look out the window. I pull out my phone. Maybe I should call Ellie.
" Well we will be spending quite a few hours together, sweetie. Better to talk now." She winks and focuses back on the road. After a few minutes of silence Sarah huffs and starts talking again. " If you won't talk I will. So you obviously have feelings for this Ellie. Not a reason not to. She is pretty.." Beautiful." Smart.." Intelligent. " Funny.." Hilarious. " and much more but are you absolutely sure you and her are ready for a relationship?"
" Look Sarah you've been a very caring women to me these past few years but this is the last year i'll be living with you. So please. Stay out of my business." I sigh. It came out harsher than I intended.
" Look Cole you are truly like a second son to me so do not give me this routine again. And it is my business because Ellie is a sweet girl and does not deserve to be caught up in a mess that you often bring around." She takes a breath. " Now I'm not saying who's fault it was and I know my son's involvement in the incident. But boy you have baggage. And before you continue to pursue Ellie you gotta clean up your act. Because that girl is going places."
" Don't you think I know that? I know she is to good for me. I'm trying Sarah. I really am." I slam my hands on the dashboard letting them slide down till they drop back on my lap.
" Oh really? Then here's some advice boy. Don't order her around. She is a human being. And a young woman. She has something special. And she will stand up for herself even if that means leaving you. Now I know this girl because I was once just like her. You need to talk to her. Because she will listen to you. If you don't want her and Liam hanging out. Tell her. She might just listen." I nod and think about what I should tell her. " But" Sarah interrupts me again. " Liam has liked this girl since who knows when. He is family. Before either of you do anything. Talk to each other and sort out your issues."
I was so wrapped up in listening to Sarah I didn't notice we had arrived at the airport. I grabbed the suitcases from the trunk and both Sarah and I walked in.
" I'm gonna call her now." I stop abruptly.
" Okay sweetie. I'm just going to be over there by the cafe." She points to the airport cafe.
I quickly dial Ellie's number which I have recently memorized.
Ring.Ring.Ring
" Hi, sorry I can't make it to the phone right now. Leave a message at the tone and i'll make sure to get back to you!" I laugh pathetically but opt for the voicemail despite the nervousness. Beep
" Hey Ellie it's Cole. I don't really know what to say but here it goes. I'm sorry I shouldn't of ordered you around I was wrong. But I beg of you don't fall for him. I'll be gone 5 days. Wait for me. I have to tell you something. No I'll tell you now... I think I lov-" Beep.
Close enough.

Liams Pov
" So want to come in for some coffee?" I didn't want her to leave. Even if I just witnessed her and my half-brother being like a...couple.
" Um I don't know if I should..." She shifts from foot to foot awkwardly. I groan.
" C'mon Ellie! I know things have been...tense between us.. but I don't want it to be like that. I know you and Cole have a thing. But is there a possibility for us?" I instantly regret it when I see the look on her face.
" Look Liam, I don't think I could make this kind of decision right now. Cole and I have some things to sort out and I don't really feel like throwing away this thing we have for you. No offense but I don't really know you." She squints her face then adds. " But don't worry I'll definitely still help with the puppy." Ellie waves her hands in front of her.
" I get it" I laugh awkwardly. " Um how about you come in and we can get to know each other. I won't pressure you into anything. We can just be friends. Deal?" I reach out my hand. Ellie hesitates then shakes my hand..
" Deal."
We walk in the house and she pulls out her phone while I start pouring the coffee.
" Liam I'm just going to use the washroom. Where is it?"
" Just down the hall second door on the right." I nod my head. After she leaves I notice she left her phone on the counter. After a couple seconds it starts to ring. I check the caller I.D and flashing a name that just keeps on popping up everywhere I go. Cole. I thought of picking it up but decided against it. He ended up leaving a message. After a minute of watching the flashing light I couldn't withstand the curiosity. Ellie doesn't have a pass code so it was quick to gain access to her voicemail.
" Hey Ellie it's Cole." No duh. " I don't really know what to say but here it goes. I'm sorry I shouldn't of ordered you around I was wrong." You've got that right. " But I beg of you don't fall for him. I'll be gone 5 days. Wait for me. I have to tell you something. No I'll tell you now... I think I lov-" No. He can't pull that move. If Ellie hears this she wouldn't give me chance much less a glance. I have to erase it.
So I did.
The monotone voice congratulating me.
" Message Deleted!"
