I have dedicated this chapter to 'Emii611' for making my wonderful cover! It's gorgeous, is it not?

Hope you enough my first chapter!

Chapter One

I walked through the doors with my mask secure on my face, and my red hair flowing around my face. I watched the crowd roar with excitement, but one man held my attention especially. It was too far to see his features, but there was something about him--something extraordinary. Dragging my eyes away from the mans, it was time to get this show started.

The boys in the circus came running out from behind me, parting on either side of me. I waited for Julian to swoop me up into the air. It was the first move we did every time at our shows. It awes the crowd, and keeps them interested right from the beginning.

His hands wrapped around my waist, spinning us both around once, before throwing me up in the air. I wrapped myself into a ball, spun my body in a circle, head first, and then flattened my body out--stomach facing the ground. Julian caught me by the waist perfectly. Just like he always did. I had no fear, we're on the road almost constantly.

Hundreds of claps were heard, and I felt a smile make its way onto my face. It always made me feel good when the people appreciated our work. I gave a small bow, and lifted my head--only to make contact with the same man before the show. I was close enough now to notice he was in his early twenties, around the same age as I, but still too far away to get a good enough look. Frowning, I skipped over to my next position, Julian following close behind.

He took a hold of my hand, spinning me multiple times until I was against his chest. I smacked his chest--not noticeably for the crowd to notice, though--and played along with whatever he was doing, because this was not part of the routine.

"Julian," I hissed. "What are you doing?"

Julian made a hush sound, making me feel more irritated then I already did towards him. "Not now, Annabelle."

He spun me out, away from him, took a hold of both of my hands and attempted to throw me in the air. His hands still attached to mine. I gasped a breath of relief when I noticed the move had worked. My feet were straight up in the air. I brought them to my chest, before slowly bringing myself back to the ground.

Every move we did took a lot of strength training. I spend practically two hours a day--only one when it's circus time--training for just this, and of course all the tricks I do. It's a lifestyle I have to live with, though. I don't necessarily hate it, but I don't exactly like it either.

Once I was back in air shot of Julian, he spoke again. "I see the way you look at him. It has got to stop!"

I almost felt like walking away--almost. But this career was all I got, I could'nt just leave it, and I was most certaintly not going to do that just because of my stupid ex-boyfriend, Julian. Oh right. If I forgot to mention before, Julian was the longest relationship I ever had, I thought I was in love, but when you're seventeen, do you truly know what love is?

We were happily together for three years when he did something I could never forget. It shall haunt me for the rest of eternity, and I really don't know if I could ever forgive him. You might be thinking, "Then why the hell are you still with him? Not still with him, but still with him!"

It's a long story, one that I don't really understand myself. But let's just say I had two choices, and this was the way better choice.

"Oh just shut up Julian!" I growled, walking away from him. Thank god I'm no longer the centre of attention right now, I was on my own for the next few moves. I'll be walking across a rope later.

I left the arena to go to my dressing room to take a short nap, and then to change my outfit. A gasp escaped my lips when my door was already opened. Who could have gone in there? Everyone who was apart of the circus was in the arena. Could somebody from the crowd break into my dressing room?

I wave of worry rolled through my body. What am I supposed to do? All of my personal things were in there. If somebody found them--took them, I'd be doomed. My throat suddenly felt parched. God I'm thirsty.

To scared to enter my dressing room, I walked into the lounge where we kept a small portable fridge. I took a container of ruby red juice, and poured myself a glass. I gulped it down quickly, and rinsed my cup out until it was sparkling clean. Satisfied, I slowly approached my dressing room. I'm so tired, and this is the only rest time I'll get for the next couple of hours.

I opened up the door, a low creeking noise sounding. Tip toeing into my room, I glanced in every corner, and my breath caught in my throat when I saw who was standing in my room.

The man from the stand.
