Two men were sitting at a desk. The older man, graying at the sides of his head, was wearing an old military uniform decorated in dozens of prestigious medals.
"Captain Garrett Johnson, for your service in the Unites States Armed Forces, we have selected you for a top secret assignment."
Captain Johnson remained unchanged facially. "Thank you, sir."
The older man leaned over and grabbed a Manila folder, opened it, and began to read it. "You will be flown directly to a top secret military base known as Site R. There, you will be subject to experiments in order to create the world's finest soldiers. In doing so, you will protect your friends, family, and American citizens in the name of freedom. Do you accept the assignment?"
Garrett nodded. "Yes sir."
The old man sighed. "Speak freely, Captain. There's no need for protocol now. You have to have questions."
"What kind of experiments, General Harding?"
The old man took a deep breath, contemplating his answer. He stood up. "If I'm honest, some damn scary stuff. I've been to the sublevels of Site R. Pure nightmare fuel."
Garrett remained as stoic as ever. "Not much can scare me, General."
He shuddered. "Oh you'll be scared, Johnson. Shitless."

A man in heavy power armor walked up to the man in the clean uniform as he strutted down the hall.
"Sergeant Mathers, why aren't you at your post?"
"Officer Wills, sir, we've cracked the encryption. We've finally made it into the sublevels."
The officer's eyes lit up. "Alert Colonel Autumn at once." He said in a demanding tone. "I'll see to it a squad of troops is prepared for a sweep."
The man sprinted down the hall in his shining power armor, as the officer continued his strut, much more urgently than before. His handlebar mustache began to twitch.

Garrett walked up to the large door of the base. A soldier, heavily armed and in T-51 power armor approached the seemingly small captain and held up a hand."
"Stop. Authorization?"
Garrett repeated the code he had memorized in order to give a professional first impression. "Authorization Code C-047."
The hulking suit of power armor turned to the console next to the door and pressed a button. "Captain Johnson is here, prep the apparatus." He stood back and motioned to the door as it opened. "Take the elevator all the way down. Dr. Neider will meet you in the Sublevel Lab."
Garrett nodded at the standard army brusqueness of the soldier, gave a patriotic salute, and continued into Site R. However, he couldn't shake the uneasiness of being told to report to the sublevels after hearing General Harding, a man hardened by war, speak about them with such horror in his voice.

A man in a long, tan trench coat strutted down the hall as he ran a hand through his sandy gray hair in an effort to straighten it. He walked up to Officer Wills, who gave a uniform salute. "Colonel Autumn, sir."
Autumn spoke with a heavy southern drawl. "Wills." He straightened his coat. "Who do we have on call for this sweep?"
"We have Baker, Kawasaki, and Hawling in X-01 waiting. Any additions you would like placed on the squad?"
The colonel waved his hand to brush off the officer's question. "They're three of our top men. I doubt we'd even need them for such a simple task."
Officer Wills' mustache began to twitch again. "Sir, we don't know what could be down there. Intel says that many experiments using FEV were performed. What if there's something big down there?"
Autumn replied smugly. "The Enclave has created many things, Wills. These things can crush any pre-war atrocity that could be lurking down there. Now, would you like to be assigned on the squad, or shall I have the honor?"
Wills could tell by the tone of Autumn's voice that he wanted to be the one to set foot in the sublevels first. He also knew not to get in the way of the colonel's strong ambition. "No sir, I believe you would be best suited for the task."
Autumn let a small grin creep along his face. "Wise choice, Officer. Tell the squad to meet me at the elevator on the double. Dismissed."
Wills gave another salute, turned, and began strutting to where the squad was waiting.
Autumn, softly chuckling, slowly made his way to the elevator down to the sublevels.
