"...so, Christopher Columbus and his crew aboard the Santa Maria were hopelessly..."
Aagghh, so. Bored. Why does history have to be my first period on Mondays? I don't know how I'll survive a whole year of this.
Nadine on the other hand, total opposite. She loves the stuff, dates, facts, old timey things, right up her street. Thank god she sits beside me this year.
"Come on, come onnn" I mutter staring at the clock.
"So class, remember to have the essay finished by Thursday, ten pages minimum, single spaced. And there will be a test on Friday, so no slacking." Miss Brighton shouted to the class.Don't let the name fool you, if there was a more miserable, less bright person they have yet to be discovered, or born. And she's our history teacher for the whole year, perfect.
BBBBBRRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGGG
"Thank god! I thought I was gonna die!" I exclaimed when Nadi and I were walking to our lockers, luckily with Laura' as well. Little tip, it is so useful to suck up to the janitors in high school, seriously.
She rolled her eyes at me smirking. "Don't be such a dramaqueen, history is cool. You'd like it if you tried" she poked my side as Laura fell in step beside us,
"I do try, but it's so-" I pulled a disgusted face.
"Gotta agree with Soph on this one Nadi," Laura laughed, "and hey, I'm the drama queen here."
We all laughed in agreement and got out our books.
"See you guys at lunch?" I asked.
"Yeah, regular spot" Laura replied.
"Have fun in science" Nadi grimaced at me.
"Hey science is great, just make sure Laura doesn't drool too much in maths," I smirked, winking at a blushing Laura and a smiling Nadi,"Hey! It's not my fault! Mr White is Hawt!" She defended.
Laughing we said our goodbyes as I headed to the science block.I walked relaxed as I headed to the labs, expertly navigating my way through the computer club and their snaking wires throughout the hallway.
I walked in, happily greeting Mr.Newton as I sat at my usual seat."I wonder who my lab partner is this year?" I thought to myself as I got out my books, although I hoped it was Amy. We've been partners two years in a row and won the science fair last year. That girl has some serious physics talent, hands down.
Once the class had filled Mr.Newton called out for quiet and attention.
"Now I know we have a few missing students this year but I have decided to make a change"
Uh oh. Change? He hated changes. This can't be good, but please please let it be okay."This year you are recieving assigned lab partners,"-que class groans-"and these will not be changed, they are permanent all year. No arguments" he stated firmly.
So obviously the class smiled politely and accepted the news quietly and graciously-So Not.
I wasn't that worried, I mean this is a mostly honour roll class, but then again if I got assigned to a popular, or a jock, well let's just say I wasn't in for a pleasant year.
Like I said before, I'm considered a nerd, although not a super nerd, just because I wear glasses mostly, I don't wear much make-up, I don't wear 'in' clothes and I'm an honours student. This makes me a target in most situations, especially since our school is as cliche as they come, even with the jocks and the cheerleaders having their own clique, constantly wearing their uniforms and always talking about the mall and gossip.
But worst of all, they rule the school. I've managed to stay relatively under their radar, and with just two years of this pressure left I dreaded that changing.
"Just relax" I thought to myself as the teacher read out the names of partners. "It won't be so bad"
I was Wrong.
So very wrong.
"Jessica and Thomas"
"Elisha and Eric"
"Carter and Damon"
"Sophie and-"The door burst open, as a student lazily sauntered in and walked up to the teacher.
Mr.Newton pursed his lips in annoyance "ah mister Taylor, how kind of you to join us" He took a slip of paper from him and signed it.
"Class, mister Taylor will be joining us this year, because obviously he loves science." Aaron smirked.
"As I was saying"-continued the teacher-" Sophie and Aaron, you are lab partners. Aaron, go take a seat beside miss Monroe" as he pointed at me.Wait, what? No. Nonono. I was so screwed.
Let me explain. Aaron Taylor was a total badboy. But not just any badboy, THE badboy of the school. With rumours of a criminal record, an 'I-don't-give-a-fuçk' attitude, motorbike and violent tendencies he was the complete opposite of what I needed this year. I had Managed to avoid him mostly apart from the odd glance in
the hallways. I was so under his radar. And that's over. Shît.Told you I was wrong.
He sauntered over to sit on the stool beside me, lazily dropping his textbook and copy on the table and slouched in his seat, the epitome of a non caring badass. I could almost taste the menace coming off him in waves of "don't mess with me". Shocked I didn't realise I was gripping the tabletop with white knuckles, I avoided looking at him, busying myself with my notepad and anything that avoided interaction.
I may have forgotten one other thing. Aaron Taylor, badass as he was, was also the schools biggest player. He constantly flirted and smooth talked the schools female population and was bad news for any innocent virgins. The more you weren't interested, the more he wanted to play. I just hoped I could get through the year without his interest being piqued.
After an agonising double period of science and trying to remain invisible, I grabbed my book bag and practically sprinted out of the class when the bell went, desperate for the safety of my friends to forget this current nightmare.
But as I was leaving somehow he caught my eye, smirking at me with his hard captivating stare. Eyes widening, I shook my head and broke the gaze, getting out of there.Oh boy, I was screwed.
