Harry POV
"Then, when they all returned to the cabins, there were blood stains on the walls, pillows torn and ripped to sheds and from some where deep within the dark forests, do you know what they could hear?"
Will took a nervous look around our group of friends who cuddled into each other for protection. When he announced he was going to tell us one of his favourite horror stories I thought very little of the idea of getting scared. For scary stories never took much out of me, in fact, I used to think they were fun to listen to.
Now however I found myself cringing after every word. Tess was latched on to my arm so tightly I thought she would snap it in two. Her eyes, along with everybody else's were focused on Will who was devilishly smirking at our faces.
Everything was spookier now. The darkening skies created a sinister feeling, along with the snapping of twigs coming from some where behind the shrubs. I shivered at the wind howling through the branches, a few withering leaves trembling their ways down to the floor.
Tess squeezed my hand.
"Footsteps," Will whispered breathlessly. "Slow, heavy footsteps closing in on them. It seemed no matter how far anybody tried to run, the footsteps only became louder. And louder. And louder. Until,"
We were all on the edges of our seats, shoulders glued to one another's as we shared anticipating stares. The atmosphere around our now deserted campfire had risen to an unbearable tension. The horror story was encouraging everybody's unconscious fears to come alive and the longer we sat listening, I became more and more aware of a disturbing feeling that we were being watched by a pair of evil eyes lurking unnaturally in the blackness behind us.
"Until every thing went quiet."
We all jumped when the dim flickering of the campfire erupted its final spark. It officially became pitch black.
We fumbled around for a torch or flash light on the floor. I had lost sight of Tess after the fire blew out, and could not seem to find her in the shadows of the night.
I distinguished her location as soon as her scream, followed by the others roared around the site. I jumped on my feet once a torch had been lit, Will's face filled with laughter glowing in the light. My anxious eyes looked around until they found her, vigorously hugging Kate and hiding her face in her shoulder.
"You are all a bunch of ninnies," Will said as he continued to laugh uncontrollably. "I didn't even get to finish the story and you're already screaming!"
"Well I think we've heard enough for one night." Kate replied rather harshly.
"Suit yourselves." He said.
I looked around at everybody, pale with racing hearts. Mine was beating fast as well. Although Will's intentions to scare us with his story did not turn out as planned, I think we all found our own ways of making the event unintentionally terrifying by pure paranoia.
My hands were in my lap as I sat down. Now with a light source I did not feel as nervous as I did before with the fire slowly burning to its death. The torch would stay lit until some one turned it off and I guess for some reason that reassured me.
A hand then swiftly removed my beanie, tugging on a few of my curls unintentionally in the process. The action caught me by surprise, my head tipping up to look at the culprit.
Tess stood in front of me, her hands clenching the grey material between her fingers as she tried for a smile. I opened my mouth to say something, when the words were chocked back by her appearance. The torch being right behind her created an almost angelic glow around her frame, especially since her skin was so fair and her hair so light.
