Welcome to lesson two: color schemes!
When creating your OC's color scheme, think of what colors do or do not go together well. Think of some possible shades that would fit with your character's talents and cutie mark, as well as their name. Typically, you don't want to have a clashing color scheme, such as blacks with reds or rainbow with black. Also, if you wish to use neon/bright colors, try not to go too far with it. Having too many bright colors on a character usually doesn't look good. Pastels are often used for color schemes, and they usually look better than neons. The last thing I would have to recommend is to keep the mane and tail of your character the same color. If your OC's mane is pink, then make the tail pink. Don't just change it to blue because you want to; it's unnatural for the mane and tail to be two different colors.
This is what you should not do when creating your OC's color scheme -
This color scheme clashes way too much, and the explicit use of neons makes the character look more unattractive.
Once again, the color scheme of this OC clashes too much, and the mane and tail are unnaturally different colors.
To be entirely honest, the clashing color scheme is not the only issue with this character. The combination of that many different species into a hybrid pony is, in my mind, something you should never do with an OC. If you want a hybrid pony, only make it a hybrid of two to three species. Not seven!
This is what you should do when creating your OC's color scheme -
The colors of these OCs go well together, and they are not too unattractively bright.
These OCs are not mine. Credit goes to the creator and original artist.
