They told her to stay away from him, but all Daniela wanted was to help him. She didn't think that things could possibly get bad.

chapter 6
"So how did you and Andy become friends?" I ask as I scrape the bottom of the frozen yogurt cup with the spoon.
"Ah well let's see." He smiles.
"It all started like this. I just moved from Oregon and I became really good friends with this kid named Brent but he was sent away to some boarding school halfway during middle school. I didn't have any friends and Andrew noticed. He began talking to me. Crazy right? Andrew talking? Ha. Well anyways he ended up leaving his friends after they admitted that they didn't like me."
"That's probably the biggest reason why I always feel guilty. He ditched his friends for me but I couldn't help him during the time when he needed help." Benn's mouth tightens in a thin line.
"I don't even know what to say. I mean yeah that was kind of messed up of you, but you can't blame yourself forever." I shrug.
"Yeah I know." He replies.
"Andy is a good kid, he doesn't deserve all the shit he goes through. He's lucky to have you around, you make it easier." Benn blushes slightly.
I don't know what to say so I just smile at him.
"There's only one more month of school left. Then graduation." Benn laughs nervously.
"I'm leaving after graduation." I say guilty. "I'm going back to California." I continue.
"I feel bad for leaving Andrew but I can't stay in this awful town." I confess.
"Don't feel bad trust me. I'm the terrible person here." Benn begins but I cut him off.
"Benn, that was years ago." I sigh.
"No it's not that. I'm not leaving this place. I can't, I'm not smart like you and can go to college in another state. I'm stuck here and everyone is leaving. I guess I'm terrified of having no one, so I tried to become friends with Andrew again because he was there for me when no one wasn't."
"It's messed up, I know." He breaks the silence.
"I need to get back home." I lie.
"Yeah, of course." He grabs his car keys.

"Uh well goodnight Suede. See you tomorrow."
"Daniela look, I'm sorry this date sucked. " he begins to apologize.
"I like you. I've liked you since that day you stood up for Andy against Fronz and I know that doesn't matter anymore now but I had to tell you." He says before turning back to his car and leaves me standing lost for words at my porch.
"What the hell just happened." I mumble and pat my pockets for the keys.
The door swings open and I get pulled inside.
"Mom?" I'm surprised. Did she hear all of it?
"Okay who was that?" She almost shouts.
"Benn." I reply.
"Do you like him?" She pushes the topic further.
"Mom! I don't know!" I become irritated.
"Sorry, didn't mean to yell. I just need time to think. " I sit on the sofa.
"What about Andy?"
"Mom!" I roll my eyes.
"I don't like Andy in that way. He's my friend. My only friend here. That doesn't mean I like Benn. Or atleast I don't think so. " I tell her
"I just need some sleep."
