'I'm afraid this is the only room we have available for you this late into the term.' The resident advisor tells me. 'I'll leave you and your mother to decide what you want to do.'

The blonde, short haired woman walks out of the room, leaving me and my mother alone.

This week has put a huge strain on mine and my parents relationship. I say parents, mostly my dad. My mom, however, is still angry that I got drunk and had two boys fighting over me at a frat party but she is also quite happy I was finally socialising.

'Your dad will come round eventually, honey.'

She really doesn't want me to leave.

'I know he will, I'm 18 now though. I need abit of independence.'

She starts crying. Wow. She really doesn't want me go.

'Mom, I'm gonna be a half hour away, it's not that much of a big deal. Ky is still gonna be at home.'

I wrap my arms around her, nestling my neck in her blonde, blow-dryed hair.

'It's just hard you know. I thought you'd stay for atleast another 3 years, just until you had finished college.'

'I really can't stay in the house anymore, I'll drive back every day if you want, it's not a problem.'

'You better.' She replies, still sobbing.

I've never under appreciated my mom. She's always stuck up for me, especially when my father treats me like a child.

The RA Linda comes back into the room holding a series of forms. 'Have you made up your mind?' She asks.

'Yeah, I'll take it.' I say, ignoring my moms muffled cries in the corner.

'Okay that's fine, you'll be sharing a room with another first year, Danielle. If you follow me into the registry building we can get all the paper work filled out now and you'll be eligible to move in tomorrow.'

I nod and follow Linda downstairs.

I'm glad I have a roommate, I just pray she's nice and isn't an avid party goer. I couldn't think of anything worse.

It takes about 30 minutes for me to fill out the forms.

'Well then Lara, it's official. You're part of the Kingsland Sorority.'

Coming from the 'woop woop' sound my mother just made, she's over me leaving. It didn't take her too long.

'Do you wanna go for dinner or something?' I ask her, when we exit the building.

'I've actually already got plans with a friend. You drive back to the house and start your packing, I'll call a taxi.'

'Are you sure? I could drive you.'

'Don't be silly, I'll be fine, you just go.'

I tell her to call me when she gets to her friends house, she agrees. Mom is always going out to lunches with friends I've never met so I can't say I'm surprised she already had plans. I say goodbye to her before climbing into my car. I haven't seen James since last week so I decide to give him a call before I begin my drive home.

'Hello.' He answers on the 3rd ring.

'Hey, it's me.'

'Hey babe, how are you?' He asks.

'I'm good, I was wondering if I could come over, it's been so long since we've seen each other.' I say.

'Erm, I'll see you later. I'm a bit busy at the minute, bye honey.'
