Arthur sighed to himself as he sat on the medium sized tan couch. In his hands was a book he had just recently borrowed, picking it out because the old woman who worked at the library he got it from had said it was well liked by those looking for a gripping mystery full of drama and unexpected turns.

Even though the Brit loved stories like that and found the pages he had read well written and interesting, he couldn't consintraite on the book at all. Instead his gaze kept going to the open window, where outside the weather was stormy and full of lighting and booms of thunder.

Another sigh escaped his lips as he subconsciously pet the orange and white cat sitting curled up on his lap. His longing gaze was taken away from the window as a mewl shattered the quietness of the Brit's home. It hadn't come from the cat that sat on his lap, but instead one that was pawing at the door.

Arthur set his book down on the wooden table infront of the couch before grabbing Scones and moving the once sleeping cat from his lap to the cushion next to him.

The blonde stood up and walked over to the door where a plump, noisy, white and black cat was pawing and meowing at the door. "Hero stop it, it's pouring outside why ever would you want to go out there," Arthur asked the cat, trying to shoo it away from the door.

Eventually, and with much coaxing, his husband's cat finally left the door alone and instead jumped up onto the couch to cuddle with Scones.

A small pout formed on the blonde's face as he looked at the couch for two reasons. One, Hero took up most of the space Arthur had occupied and knowing how much that cat eats he wouldn't be able to move him easily. And two, he felt slightly jealous that he and his husband's cats were together while he was.... alone.

The pout on Arthur's face slowly turned into a frown that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't make it go away or stop forming. It wasn't fair. None of it was. Arthur was proud of his Alfred for going into the army but... it was just so lonely and sad without him around.

Arthur sat down on the only other empty seat available in the livingroom; the armchair that Alfred always used and was his favorite place to rest. As soon as he sat down memories flooded the blonde's mind. Like the times Arthur would feel in a snuggling mood and would lay down in Alfred's lap to be held. Or when Alfred would fall asleep in the chair doing work and Arthur would cover him in a blanket, kiss the other's forehead, and sleep on the couch just to be near him. Or how about the times-

Arthur couldn't stop the tears that began dripping down his face, nor could he stop the choked sob that escaped his throat either. The chair, the scent that lingered on it, even that fat cat that constantly bugged Arthur for attention, absolutely everything reminded Arthur of his husband. No matter how hard he tried to concentrate on something else, no matter how hard he tried to push back his sadness... nothing could stop the emotions he had bottled up inside of himself.

Right then and there, the tears he had kept under lock and key for so long, finally escaped. He sobbed into the chair, time becoming irrelevant as whimpers and yells of frustration escaped his mouth. He was so scared and frustrated with his lover gone. He missed him so, but he knew it was selfish to want him back when he was doing something much greater for his country... but was it really so selfish to want your loved one safe and back home? To know they weren't dead or dying due to the enemy they had to face?

Arthur just couldn't take the thought of something bad happening Alfred, and knowing that he couldn't be sure that nothing did left a pain in his chest that couldn't be taken away unless the other was back by his side.

When the Brit had finally pulled his face out of the, now tear soaked, cloth of the chair it was only when not only Hero but also his usually quiet cat Scones had begun to meow so loud that it had somewhat drowned out the blonde's yells.

Arthur sniffled and wiped his runny nose on the sleeve of his shirt, something he normally wouldn't do but didn't care enough at the moment not to. He looked down at the two cats that were clawing at the chair. "W- what is it you t-two want," he said in an unsteady voice, it craking every so often from just crying.

Of course the cats didn't answer, but now that they saw they had one of their master's attention they both ran over to the door, now meowing at that instead like Hero had done before.

Before Arthur could even get up to shoo them away again a knock at the door sounded. Arthur looked over at the clock on the wall quickly. 'It's 8:47 why would someone be at the door at this hour? It's even still storming,' he thought to himself. Although it was rude he didn't really want to open the door. Not only did Arthur not want anyone to see him with his eyes and face all red and puffy from crying, but he was home alone. What if it was someone dangerous at the door.

Again the knock sounded. Hesitantly Arthur stood and went over to the door. He looked through the peephole and as soon as his eyes focused on who it was outside he imeadiatly wanted to burst into tears again, but for a completely different reason than before.

Arthur had never before opened a door quicker in his life then he did at that moment. As soon as the door swung open Arthur ran out onto the porch and jumped into awaiting arms.

The American who stood on the porch in the rain caught the smaller blonde and held him by his waist as the other wrapped his legs around him. Arthur tried to form words but all that came out as he held onto the American was broken up fragments of words mixed with sobs of happiness. Alfred smilled down at his husband, tears gathering in his own eyes. "Arthur I missed you so much, but now I'm finally home, and here to stay," the American said, struggling through his own tears at finally seeing the one person who made his life worth living.

"A-alfred I love you. I missed y-you everyday you w-were gone. Please never leave me again, I don't k-know how I'd live without you," the Brit said through his sobs, looking up at his lover as he held onto him in a way that showed that he felt like if he'd let go then Alfred would dissapear from him again.

"I love you to Arthur. I'll never leave you, I swear honey, never again," Alfred promised wiping away his love's tears with one hand, before leaning down and capturing his husband's lips with his own.

The two were finally back together again, and this time, nothing would separate them ever again.
