Hard To Believe

Chapter 4

As we sat on the bench, there was a peaceful silence until I asked dad something that I've wanted to ask for a while, " Was mom the only reason of your happiness...now that she's gone, do I feel like a burden on you?". He looked to me with a face I couldn't quite read, it was like so many emotions. " You're mom was the reason of my happiness but not the only one, you were too. Now that she's gone.....it feels as if a piece of my heart has been ripped off, but I know that you're here, my daughters here for me, and whenever I see you, I see your mom in you. You're my happiness too Kia, and I'm truly really sorry if you think that as a father, I'm not keeping up to that title. All I need's a little time to cope with it, to learn how to live without your mom, and the days when I would come home to be met by your mom cooking one of her delicious recipes in the kitchen."

To be honest I was quite shocked with the response as he has never had this long of a conversation with me ever since mom left. "Dad, all I wanted to say is.... you're the best dad anyone can ask for, and I totally understand how you feel towards mom, both of us are devastated and I know that it will take a while to deal with it dad, but i wanted to let you know that I'll always be there for you" i said with a shaky voice, I was on the edge of crying as I felt something come up to my throat, I couldn't cry now, I had to be strong for dad and I. He didn't reply but turned to me with a faint smile.

Shortly, a while after our conversation, dad and I went on the swings for a while, had ice cream and went to a 90's styled diner to have dinner. Today was honestly a great day, it felt as if dad was normal again. All I hope is for this to continue on.

After debating whether I should do my homework or not, I quickly finished it so I wouldn't have to worry about it later on. After laying on my bed for a few hours scrolling through my instagram, stalking kids from my school and watching youtube videos, I decided to go downstairs grab a snack and call Xavier and see what he's up to.

The call with Xavier was funny and a little short because he decided to come over to my house since we didn't have much to do. Xavier, was really fun to be with, he always knew how to get me happy whenever I felt low. He was just the best friend that I would ask for. As I was watching T.V and patiently waiting for Xavier to come, I heard my dad talking on his phone which seemed as if he was talking to a old friend of his. "Oh no, i don't think I'll be able to join you guys this Friday........ fine, fine I know it's been years now since we've met, well I guess one time won't hurt.." it seemed as if Dad was going to meet up with some old friends, well it's good, he'll be able to get his mind off mom for a while. It's been about 20 minutes and Xavier hasn't been here yet, *Ding Dong*, OH there he is.

I go to grab the door, and there I'm met by Xavier wearing a flannel top with some jeans and his brown hair is gelled back but has volume. He flashes me a bright smile, and I smile back, trying to match back. "Hey, sorry it took a while I met the guy Aden on the way." He said, "Hey, and no problem, and you know Aden?" I said, furrowing my eyebrows with a faint smile. He quickly replied " Yeah I do, just not in a friendly way...." As soon as he said that, I was intrigued and quickly made it my goal to find out. I know it really wasn't my business, but it's regarding Aden.... and I wanted to know what Xavier meant when he said 'not in a friendly way'.

Skillfully, he avoided the topic about Aden and came inside. We spent the evening revising some of our work for a upcoming test, and watched Mean Girls, I know typical movie, but luckily Xavier didn't mind, he said he never saw the movie but heard many remarks made regarding it. School was tomorrow and I wasn't ready..at all.
