Prologue
Isabel’s POV:
I fidgeted nervously in my seat, as I could hear the paper being passed around quietly behind me. Even though the girls wanted me to do everything, I chose Annabel to draw our names and put us with a guy. So I didn’t know who I was going to end up with. All I know was I really hoped I got Niall; I peeked over at him, watching as he sat there lazily.
Niall was the most popular guy in our class, and the one that all the girls wanted. I watched him dreamily, when our teacher yelled out, “You girls in the back better pay attention now! No horsing around.” I glanced back to see how far the paper had advanced up. It was only one row up, and I was two rows from the girl who had it now.
I started fidgeting more, waiting impatiently for my turn. So far I hadn’t heard any girl scream out, which means Niall wasn’t taken yet, but I also didn’t hear any girl moan out in disappointment, which means Marcel wasn’t taken either. I peeked over to the top corner of the classroom where Marcel was listening intently to the teacher. I grimaced, hoping I wasn’t going to get the only nerd in our class.
“No way!” I heard someone yell out from behind me.
“Excuse me?” the teacher glared at the back.
“Sorry Mr. Fawn.” The girl muttered, but giggled happily.
Shit, does that mean Niall was taken already?
I turned around slightly to see who was the one that screamed out, when the teacher called on me, “Isabel answer the question.”
I shot my head to the front, turning bright red in embarrassment, “Um…I don’t know.” I pulled my gaze down, not meeting anyone’s.
“Pay attention then Isabel.” He turned towards Marcel, “Marcel can you answer the question for Miss Fetcher.”
“Yes sir.” He smiled, pushing the rim of his glasses up.
I tuned him out as I caught a glimpse of the paper being passed to my row now. I watched as a girl looked down at the paper, and was about to pass it to Niall, when Annabel, who was sitting next to her stopped her immediately.
I sighed in relief knowing our plans weren’t going to get caught. I watched as Annabel passed it back so the girls could pass it around Niall to me. I placed my hands gently on the already wrinkled paper, nervous to see what my name had.
I unfolded the paper, as Marcel was still talking to the teacher. I quickly skimmed down the list of girls and fell on my name, dread sinking in.
Isabel: Marcel
I peeked up at the nerdy Marcel, in his full nerd attire. I placed my head down in disappointment. I had gotten Marcel, for our classrooms boyfriend list.
I had one month to make Marcel my boyfriend.
