Jane sat on the opposite side of the couch when I awoke. "Morning." I said sleepily. "Ella? Is that you?" She asked. I nodded, unsure of what she was doing. "There's somebody here for you." She said. I nodded and went to the door. "Chase!" I yelled, hugging the small girl. "Hi, Ell..." She said quietly. "We have a promblem, Ell." She said with a sigh. I raised an eyebrow, and she walked back to reveal a small body. "Max?" I said in shock, running to the body. "Ella? Nonono! Get away! I don't want to see you!" Max yelled. "What?" I asked, confused. "What you said can't be undone, Ella! I-I can't handle it. You... You were just so mean to me..." He said through tears. I looked back at Chase, unsure of what he ment. "Well, Ell, it was pretty mean. I mean, way to ruin a dead persons life here. Just yell at them until they cry and not even say sorry." Chase said. I stared at her, then pulled Max into a hug. "I'm not sure what I said, but I'm sure that whatever I did say, I didn't mean it." I whispered, cradling his head in my body. I saw a flash of Jane's pure white hair, and she ran outside. "You said I was ugly. And mean. And the worst person you had ever met." He said, with tears rolling down his cheeks and onto my shirt. "Max, you know I didn't mean any of it. I don't think your ugly, or mean. Or that your the worst person I've ever met. In fact Max... How should I put this? Max... I think I love you." I whispered, beginning to cry myself. He looked up at me with hopeful eyes, and wrapped his arms around my neck. "I love you too, Ella Gray." He whispered. Unexpectedly, surprisingly in a good way, he pressed his lips against mine. He pulled away before I got my thoughts straight, and all I could do was stare at him. "How did the fight go?" I asked him. "I can help you." A voice said. I looked around in confusion, and as if it wasn't already, everything went pitch black.

"Max, get away!" "Ella, your bleeding. I want to help." She pushed him away, and he stumbled backwards. "I don't want to see your face again." "Ella..." "Max, get your ugly face out of mine." "Ella?" "Max. Get away. Your blinding me with your ugliness!" "Ella are you okay?" "Max, you shouldn't always assume there's something wrong." "But Ella.." "Max, stop being so rude! There's nothing wrong with me!" "Ella, just listen-" She pushed him against the wall, her arm squashing his throat. "Listen? Me? Don't tell me to listen. You listen to me, Max Fowl. You listen to me." He slumped onto the ground, tears streaming down his cheeks.

I snapped out of it with Max sitting next to me and Jane in front. Max had his arms wrapped around me and was silently crying on my shoulder, while Jane was bandaging up my leg for some reason. "Ella?" Max asked, lifting his head up. I nodded to him, and then my foot. He shrugged and chuckled, obviously not wanting to say anything. I rested my head on his shoulder, realizing now how soft his hair actually was. I yawned, and fell asleep right there.
