When I woke on the morning of June 8th, it was cool in my bedroom. My window was cracked open and the thin curtain billowed as the wind blew in. I curled into my duvet and enjoyed the warmth in my body while the cool air touched my face. This morning was a lucky one, I woke before my alarm so I didn't have to be disturbed by the sound of electronic ducks quacking. I unplugged my phone and unlocked it to find two texts from my best friend Tess. The first read: "good morning skank". I laughed out loud and covered my mouth not to wake my little brother in the room next to mine. The second text read: "dont forget, it's yearbook day!". School was out in one week and now we were finally getting our year books.
I finally got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. My hair was naturally kind of curly, so i just fluffed it up a bit and tied it into a ponytail. I did my makeup and got dressed and headed down to the kitchen with my backpack. My mother stood at the stove, making an omelette and tea. She always loved to cook, and she was good at it too. She never got tired of spending hours in the kitchen cooking for my family.
"Good morning Laila." She glanced when she heard me come in.
"Morning mum." I sat down at the table and began sipping on the hot tea she set down in front of me. Mornings were always peaceful like this in my house. No one ever rushed or worried, all was well. I wish I could've appreciated these moments more, I would've if I knew what my future held.
