she's sinking in a little too deep when she promised she'd only put a toe in

test the waters, she said, it'll be fine

but the waves are pushing, pulling, twisting her limbs

with a ferocity that's leaving her tired

the current is a little too strong and it's taking her away

she has no choice in this, lying on her back letting the ocean guide her astray.

and he sits by the shore, torment and agony filling his eyes -

hopelessness, helplessness that is felt to such great extents,

he feels as though he's drowning along with her too.

all he can do is watch.

just watch as the waves take her further away from him,

eventually engulfing her whole,

while he is blissfully aware of the fact

he can do nothing about it.

because the thing is, he never learned how to swim

and as she drowns - body sinking deeper into the abyss,

he can still hear her voice singing,

pounding at the back of his head,

screaming in it's irony

"you're my hero"
