[ IV. ]

"Ms. Creswell, you are to sit next to Mr. Potter." Professor McGonagall stated once she had entered the classroom. The chatter had immediately died down, the whole classroom going silent upon the sentence that Professor McGonagall had spoken. Students looked at each other in confusion and terror, wondering if the words McGonagall had spoken were true. Valerie had stopped her chatter with Portia, her eyebrow raising in question as she cleared her throat.

"I beg your pardon?" The Creswell heir questioned with confusion laced in her tone.

"You will be sitting next to Mr. Potter, Ms. Creswell." A strings of gasps left the students mouths when McGonagall repeated herself. Valerie nodded her head, slowly standing from her chair. She held a look of displeasure as she made her way across the room, setting her books down gently on the desk before sitting herself down next to Potter. She wasn't the only one who looked displeased.

James had let out a groan of protest once Valerie sat next to him, huffing in annoyance once Professor McGonagall shot him a look. And while a big part of him disliked the idea of having the Creswell heir sit next to him for the rest of the year, the small part of him liked it. Maybe this was finally his chance to get to know her, a chance for him to finally talk to her without snide remarks or insults. Maybe this was a miracle from Merlin himself.

"Take a picture, Potter. They last longer." Valerie quietly sneered, her eyes glancing at the male next to her in displeasure. James blinked his eyes, looking dumbfounded before he sneered back at the girl next to him. Valerie rolled her eyes, shaking her head while she muttered insults under her breath. It hadn't even been five minutes and Valerie was already losing her patience with James.

Throughout the whole lesson, the two teenagers would glance at each other here and there, blushing when one would catch the other. McGonagall saw this and she couldn't help but watch them in amazement. For the most part, they had been cooperative with each other. Sure, they bickered here and there, throwing insults at each other, but it wasn't to the point where they needed to draw their wands at each other's throats. All in all, McGonagall couldn't help but think that Dumbledore was indeed correct. Maybe their fighting can finally come to an end.

Once class was dismissed, Valerie shot up from her seat, her books gathered in hand, leaving James to look at her retreating form. He let out a sigh, watching the curls of hair bounce with every graceful step she took, the way she held her head high with her shoulders back. James shook his head as if he were riding himself from the thoughts that revolved Valerie Creswell. He had to remember that she was the enemy. His enemy. And he did not want to fraternize with the enemy.

"Don't you find it slightly weird that McGonagall sat you next to Potter?" Portia questioned Valerie as they walked down the halls of Hogwarts towards their next class. Valerie nodded in response, rolling her eyes when people would glance at her and whisper to their friends. "I mean, just think about it. You two have been seperated for six years and suddenly, the two of you are sitting together! Mad, I tell you!"

"Is it true?" Megaera questioned, walking towards the two girls quickly, stepping in between Valerie and Portia. Portia glared at the blonde before letting out a sigh, taking a few steps back and away from the insolent slytherin blonde. "Did McGonagall make you sit next to Potter?"

Valerie frowned at the way Megaera had said the name Potter. It was if he was nothing but dirt at the bottom of her shoe. Maybe to Megaera he really was, but to Valerie, it just sounded wrong. She didn't know why she was thinking this, why she was so deffensive over Potter. They both hated each other, well at least that's what Valerie thought. There was something about his blue eyes, his messy unkept hair, the round frame of his glasses, his pinkish lips that Valerie wondered how they would feel pressed against hers.

"For Merlin's sake, Creswell!" Megaera snapped in annoyance, earning Valerie's attention. Her head turned to look at the fuming blonde, which eventually caused her to collide with someone else, causing the books and a few pieces of parchment paper to scatter around everywhere.

"Oi! Watch where you're..." Valerie stopped talking once she her eyes met a pair of blue ones. Valerie closed her mouth, pursing her lips as she stared at the male before her.

"What Creswell? Cat got your tongue?" James questioned, a smirk planted on his lips. Valerie furrowed her eyebrows, shaking her head before leaning down to collect her things. James furrowed his eyebrows, but leaned down as well to help Valerie collect her things. The hall around them became silent as they all watched the two heirs from the rival families help each other out. It was all insane!

Valerie reached out for a book, one that James was also going to get, causing the two to bump hands against each other. Valerie felt small waves of shock go up her arm and she immediately let go, trying her hardest to avoid the male in front of her. Her cheeks were burning up and she was sure that her face had turned a bright red.

"Ugh." The groan came from Megaera who had suddenly yanked the book from James' grasp, collecting everything else before shoving it in Portia's direction. The brunette quickly tried to keep everything together, making sure nothing had fell. The blonde quickly yanked Valerie up, shoving past James with a sneer on her face as she guided Valerie through the halls. Valerie turned her head to look over her shoulder, her eyes meeting James before she was forced to turn around back again.
