It all began when his car hit her full force...
No.
It started when that jerk of an ex boyfriend she had beat her.
Gajeel growled at the thought of the man, the rumbling sound got louder as he remembered the bruises he found on her the same day. That's what made Levy so upset that she tried running to my house for safety...and got hit crossing the street.
Gajeel glanced over at his best friend, who was laying in the hospital bed next to the painfully uncomfortable chair he was sitting in.
She was in a coma, the doctor had told him. She suffered from head trauma, and possible amnesia. But it wasn't confirmed yet, because the bluenette had yet to wake.
Her name was Levy Mcgarden, and Gajeel knew her only as a very happy and lovable person. Because of her kind personality, she was very accepting, and could make friends with almost anyone she crossed paths with.
Unfortunately, this often led to men taking advantage of her kindness and forgiveness...
Like that bastard.
He ruffled her soft sky-kissed curls, in hopes that the small, gentle touch would awake her.
No such luck.
He sighed inwardly, staring at her peaceful face. Instead of the usual headband she used to tie back her hair, a halo of bandages sat in its place. Instead of her warm, cozy room, which smelt of ink and fresh morning tea, she had to be here. In a cold, blank hospital room, that smelt of antiseptic and disinfectant.
And it's all his fault...
He growled again, audibly, but it ceased almost immediately when Levy's eyes began to flutter, and her beautiful hazel eyes opened to meet the over head lights.
She looked over at him and blinked, looking like a blind man seeing the sun for the first time. The next words that came out her mouth still broke his heart to this day.
"Who're you?"
His heart felt as if it shattered. His best friend, his better half...had no memory of him.But he smiled anyways.
For her sake.
"I'm Gajeel," he said gently, "Remember me?"
"...no...I'm sorry...am I supposed to?"
"..."
Amnesia...it'll go away soon...ill just have to get used to it...
at least...thats what he thought ...before a doctor announced that this was no short term thing; her memory of him would never return. she would actually suffer from short-term memory loss for the rest of her life...and they would have to 'meet' everyday...from that day on.
But he would never give up...for she was his best friend; his better half.
And she deserved more than loosing everything over some stupid guy and a drunk driver.
And so, he swore to himself the moment she was diagnosed, that he would stay by her side, forever and always.
And that's exactly what he did.
