"Samantha!" The owner of the orphanage -Dan- shouted at me,"Get your stuff ready we're about to head out."
By head out he meant stay a few days at a new possible adopter for me. I had gone through plenty. And while all of my friends had found the perfect parents, I was rejected. No one wanted a 14 year old girl with a temper.
I grabbed the damaged mp3 player I had found in an ally and a few changes of clothes, and a locket that I had had forever, shoved them in a plastic bag and Dan and I headed out.
The house was like any other house, two story, white, and had two cars in the driveway. I walked up to the front door with Dan and he knocked on the door.
A beautiful woman with long, golden hair and a flower covered blue dress opened the door. A smile covered her face and her yellow eyes shone brightly with delight. I could smell food in the oven from outside. The woman had a too-cheerful voice and said,"Why hello there young lady, my name is Miss. Fletcher. What might your's be?"
Since I didn't like being called Samantha I replied,"My name is Sam."
"That's a lovely name dear. How about I call you Sammy?" Miss. Fletcher almost sang. Her voice was already starting to make me lose my temper, and the fact that she called me Sammy didn't help one bit."No, how about you call me by the name I told you. Since its so lovely," I said with irritation in me voice. She was taken aback at my words and Dan said, "Now why don't we calm down Sam."
His calm voice didn't help the situation, and I knew he was only trying to please me by calling me Sam and not Samantha. Although I forced myself to calm down slightly and not snap at Dan.
Miss. Fletcher spoke in a slightly annoyed voice," Now Sam why don't you come inside. I'll see you in a few days Dan and tell you how it went." Her smile was bright as Dan left, but It wasn't as bright as her voice.
I rarely spoke as Miss. Fletcher went over the basics. Your room is down the hall on the left, make yourself at home, we can talk more at dinner but for now just relax. Blah blah blah! I'm not going to be here for long so why does it matter!?
I still went into my room and chose a song from the ones on my mp3 player, ignoring the guitar coming from the room next to me.
Dinner time came and I could hear Miss. Fletcher's voice shout over my music, "Come to the dinner table kids its time to eat.!" Did she say kidssss I wondered. Just as I expected there were two other kids sitting at the table. One was a pretty girl about 9 years old in a light pink dress and a blue and white bow at her waist. Her hair was a mix of blonde and orange, two ponytails at the side of her head were held by matching bows as on her waist.
The other kid was a boy who looked about my age, he wore a white sweat shirt and slightly torn jeans. His hair was easily recognizable as dyed a dark, almost black, purple. Yellow and white headphones rested on his shoulders.Miss. Fletcher smiled as I entered the room. The girl also smiled but it wasn't as bright. While the boy glanced at me and ignored me. I took a seat on the other side of the table from the kids and Miss. Fletcher set down the food. She then sat down and said, "Sam I apologize about not introducing you earlier but this is Clarese." Clarese smiled, "Hello Sam!" "And this is Enzo."
He said nothing. "Enzo this is Sam, why don't you say hi?" He still didn't reply. "Enzo don't ignore me we use manners in this household," her voice was very irritated now. Enzo sighed and mumbled, "Hey Sammy." I instantly snapped, "Don't call me Sammy, ever." then Miss. Fletcher was staring concerned at me.
"Sam why don't you like being called Sammy?" She asked gently. I stood up and pounded my hands on the table, "Why is that any of your business?!" I shouted, this woman had crossed the line. I hated people I didn't trust sticking their noses into my business. Clarese looked very surprised and Enzo.... Well Enzo just kept eating.
Miss. Fletcher tried to calm me down, "Sam there's no need to get angry. If you're going to live with us I'd like to know about your past." This didn't help and I continued shouting even angrier than before, "I'm not going to live with you!" I now felt different, and there was a faint blue glow in the corner of my eye but I was too angry to notice. "I'm an orphan! No one wants to live with me! All me friends are gone! THEY ALL ABANDONED ME!" Now the glow was bright and I could make out outlines of blue flame all around me.
With all my anger out I could see Miss. Fletcher looking terefied, holding Clarese in her arms and Enzo looking surprised and backing away slowly. I looked down at my arms to see they were covered in blue fire. I was now terefied myself and in a moment of confusion and fear I ran. I ran out of the house and into the forest out back.
