So Enzo and I started walking. At first we were both silent. I was comprehending everything that he'd just said. I mean what had he just said? The world is covered in demons and I'm Satan's daughter? Why can't I see all of these demons and.... who was my mom? Who would have a child with Satan?
As Enzo and I continued walking He asked, "So...... who is your mom?" "Don't know," I answered blankly. "What do you mean you don't know? You must have known her for a little while," he said annoyed "No I didn't! I've never known her!" I snapped almost instantly. We continued to be silent, until I realized how eerie our surroundings were. The trees were very tall and the leaves blocked out most of the light. The further we went into the forest the more undergrowth we had to walk through and the thicker the leaves in the trees were. I was constantly on guard and distanced myself more from Enzo.
Maybe this wasn't a good idea... I should head back. I was thinking. Back where? It's not like you can get back to the orphanage! Or anywhere you would know! I argued back. Taking in all the information in my head. Does it really matter? What if he's taking you back to a secret base to kidnap you!? You need to get out of here! The argument wasn't going anywhere. The facts were stacked against me wanting to keep going. Although I couldn't resist that there was a force urging me forward. As if I was a puppet, breaking away from the strings of society and chasing some other strings. New strings that I'd never seen before.
After a few hours of walking Enzo smiles and says, "OK we're almost there! Just a few more.." He cut off as he moves aside a group of branches blocking the way. Behind the branches I see a small hill. At first I find this unimportant. "Good for you! You led me to a hill," I say sarcastically. Enzo replies, "This isn't just any hill." Walking over to a side of the hill and opens up a door that I hadn't even noticed. My eyes open wide in shock.
I follow Enzo down a
long corridor that was slanted down deeper into the ground. The walls were stone along with the floor, and at the end of the hall there was a stone door. Enzo opened it into another long hall, although this hall had doors on the sides. People were walking along the hall and side halls that branched off. "What is this place?" I asked in awe. "This is a home for people who are part demon and part human." Enzo explained, "You see, in our world people that are half demon are thought of the same as demons. Exorcists will kill us once they realize what we are. Here, we're safe."
As we walked along the hall Enzo continued to talk about how all demon-people were allowed to live here. "Ok," I interrupted, "So what does this have to do with me?" Enzo replied, "Isn't it obvious? You're Satan's daughter! If the exorcists find you they'll be terrified and kill you on the spot! That's why we want you to join us." I consider this. It wasn't like I had anywhere to go back to. Also since Fletcher called the cops they'll be looking for me. There was no reason to deny the offer.
"I understand it you don't want to but-" I cut off Enzo "OK I'll join you." Enzo was shocked, "I-I mean shouldn't you think about it first? Don't get me wrong I'm glad you're joining but still! You'll be leaving behind everything you knew!" I blankly responded, "I have nothing to go back for. I'll join you." Looking skeptical Enzo nodded, "OK, well then why don't I show you your room. In order to save space you're going to have to share a room." Although I didn't like it I didn't really care either. As long as this person kept to themselves I was fine.
Once again I followed Enzo. He led me into a side hall that broke off from the main hall. There were still people walking through the hall, although not as many as in the main hall. "Here it is," Enzo said painting at one of the doors. It was number 456. Enzo knocked on the door and after a moment the locked clicked and the door opened. It was a girl. Her hair went down to her shoulders and was tightly curly. Her skin was a light brown. The same color of hot cocoa. Her eyes were hazel with prescription glasses over them. Her top was plain white. Her skirt was white but covered with colorful outlines of flowers that went down to her her knees.
