"Thanks for dinner mom! I'm gonna take Daisy for a walk to the park." I told my mom and stood up to grab Daisy's leash. I slipped my phone in my back pocket and I was ready.
"Okay honey. Have fun!" My mom called back.
"I will!" I said and walked out the door with Daisy pulling ahead. I walked past Ryder's house and down a couple more streets when I reached the park. I went to grab my phone out of my back pocket. Wait where was it?!? I was sure I put it in my pocket! I turned around to go back and look for it but I bumped into something hard. I looked up and saw Ryder's piercing blue eyes.
"Oh sorry Ryder. Have you seen my phone?" I asked him, looking around frantically.
"This one, babe?" He smirked, knowing full well it was mine.
"Yes Ryder that one. Can you please give it to me now?" I asked him.
"On one condition if you give me your number."
"Oh fine. Just text yourself, then you'll have my number." I answered.
"Okay. Put in your passcode first." He said.
I put in my passcode and handed my phone to him.
"Thanks." He said as he was typing his phone number in.
"Thanks for finding my phone. Want to get ice cream? I have ten dollars." I asked him.
"Yeah sure babe." He said and we walked over to the ice cream stand.
We both got vanilla soft serves, and man were they good.
"Mmm." I said.
"This is good ice cream!" He said and I laughed.
We started walking back towards my house, Daisy in tow. I gave her the rest of the crunchy cone as we walked.
"Want to go to the beach, babe?" He asked. I checked my phone and it said 7:00 PM. The sun would set around eight, so we had time.
"Yeah sure. We have some time before the sun sets so why not?" I answered.
We walked toward the beach with Daisy, who was frolicking in the sand as we got close to the water.
"So what made you want to move to Oakview?" I questioned Ryder. It was a small town and not very well known so there had to be a reason.
"My mom was transferred from one job location to this one. I'm happy I moved as well, the people where I used to live in Michigan all thought that I was leaving because I knocked a girl up which wasn't true. She was pregnant but she just told everyone it was mine." He said.
"Well that is... A new scenario that I never thought I'd hear." I laughed.
"So this might sound arid but, my friends and I always go up to this place called Salisbury later on in the summer and my mom brings us. You could come and I'd introduce you to them? I'm sure that they would love you. Plus if we are gonna be besties... You need to be in the group. And I'm assuming you'd like to have some friends when you start school, right?" I wondered.
"Yeah, baby, I'll go. It will be nice to know some people before school starts, besides you that is." He winked and started to wiggle his toes in the warm sand. Well that's a new nickname I thought but ignored it.
"Are you excited for the new school?" I asked him. If I were him I would be worried and nervous but that's just me.
"A little. I've never been the new kid but I'm a pretty cool person and its hard not to love my looks." He said arrogantly.
"Ugh you're so cocky." I said. But I do like it. It adds to his attractiveness.
"You know you love it, babe." He smirked.
"Should I have agreed to go to the beach with you?" I laughed.
"Of course you should've, that's why you did." He smirked. "Hey let's look for shells. There's usually a lot near the edge of the water." He voiced his idea.
"Okay. Let's go." We went opposite ways. 15 minutes later we met back up. He showed me a huge shell, it was pink and salmon color.
"Wow thats huge!" I gasped.
"That's what she said." He laughed.
I groaned. "Really?"
"Yes really, it was a good chance babe." He said.
"It's starting to get dark. We should head back." I told him, and I grabbed Daisy and we started walking back. We got to the front of his cottage.
"See you tomorrow babe." Ryder said.
"Bye Ryder." I said and walked to my cottage.
"Mom I'm home! I'm going to be in my room." I told her.
"Okay Emily." She said.
I walked up to my room and slipped into my pajamas. I flopped and and stared at the ceiling. I can't believe it's only been 2 days since we've gotten here. All of the sudden my phone dinged.
Unknown number: Hey babe.
I knew right away that it was Ryder. I sighed.
Emily: Hey Ryder
Ryder: How'd u know it was me?
Emily: U called me babe.
Ryder: Oh. Well goodnight, babe.
Emily: Goodnight Ryder.

Three days later

"Mom! I'm heading to the mall with Ryder!" I yelled as I was waking tot the door.
"Okay have fun sweetie!" She said and I walked to Ryder's house.
I rang the doorbell. Me and Ryder have gotten a lot closer on these few days at the the Cape.
"Hey babe. Ready for the mall?" Ryder said when he opened the door.
"Yep. I'll get in the car." I said and he followed behind me.
Ryder got I the drivers seat, next to me in the passengers. We were heading to the mall for a day of Cape shopping. The mall here isn't that big, it's more of a strip mall, but I love the stores. It doesn't take long to get to from where we are staying, and we were there in ten minutes.
"Okay we're here babe." Ryder said to me before getting out of the car.
"C'mon I have a few stores you might like." I said, little did he know that I was talking about one of my favorite candle stores.
"Okay. Where to first?" He asked with a cute look on his face. I pointed to the candle store and he groaned.
"Are you kidding me right now babe? A freaking candle store? Oh well at least it'll smell good." He said and I laughed.
"You could use a good smell for a change." I smirked.
"Yeah right." He pulled me to his chest. "I smell just fine." He said. I inhaled. Wow he really did smell good.
"Okay let me go we have get to the candle store!" I said. But when he let me go I oddly missed his presence. I ignored the feeling and walked in front of him to the candle store.
"Nice view you've given me." Ryder smirked at me.
I groaned. "Pervert."
He laughed and we walked into the store. We looked around, walking he and there, picking up candle after candle and smelling them. Surprisingly this was quite fun.
Apes minute later I heard Ryder say next to me, "We HAVE to get this. Smell it. I smelled it and it smelled like the beach.
"Mmm that does smell good. I guess we could get it. After we buy it lets grab some lunch at this diner next door to here." I said and we went to the cash register.
I paid and he took the paper bag with the carefully wrapped candle in it and we walked the few yards to the diner.
"2?" The waitress asked us. I nodded and she showed us our table.
"Here you are." Sandy said, I read her name tag.
"Thanks." Me and Ryder said at the same time and we sat down.
"I'll have the Caesar salad with pink lemonade please." I ordered a few minutes later when Sandy came back.
"I'll have the chicken tenders with iced tea please." Ryder said.
A little while later the food came. We dug right in and in no time our food was finished. Sandy brought the check and as I reached for it, Ryder snatched it away.
"Ryder I wanted to pay!" I quietly exclaimed as a smirk began to appear on his face.
"You paid for the candle I'll pay for lunch." He said as he slipped his money into the folder.
"Ugh fine." I groaned as Sandy came by and took it.
"Let's head back. I have to babysit Grace." He said and we started the car ride back home.
"I can help if you want." I offered and I saw his face change from annoyance to relief.
"Yeah! That would be great!" Ryder said. A couple minutes later and we were at his house. This would be fun!
