-Chapter 7-

I’m sure he saw the hatred in my kitty cat eyes, the deep, pure hatred. I could only guess that he had noticed my hatred because of his frown, “Don’t look at me like that, Jayy.”

“You’re lucky I’m in this condition lest I’d rip you to shreds, you little traitor,” I growled.

“I can heal you, please don’t be like that!” My father looked extremely exhausted.

“I don’t need your help!” I grumbled as Jeffree stretched a hand over me and hugged me.

“Please, Jayy, accept his help....” Jeffree begged.

His hand glowed a soft shade of blue as he stroked my fur. It soothed me a little, feeling the heat from his hand, maybe that was his talent or something and he could soothe spirits, “Alright, if it’s for you….”

My father, Mist, walked over and placed a hand on my injured paw that was going numb. His hand glowed the same shade of sapphire as Jeffree’s and I felt the poison leaving as my paw started feeling like normal. He pressed it against my rib cage and I let out a yowl in agony that was shortly soothed as he healed my broken ribs, “You didn’t land on your feet, son,” He teased.

I laughed slightly… the best that I could as a cat. Even though I hated him, he always managed to make me chuckle, “Can you heal Jeffree?” I nodded at my friend who was still shivering.

“You can warm him up yourself, that’s all he needs,” he turned to Lexilia, “It’s a shame she’s the snake that’s loyalist to the general.”

“Why did she wait for us to wake up?” She had lost consciousness apparently and was now lying in the snow in snake form.

“Most likely to toy with you, but it looks like it didn’t work out to her advantage,” Mist guessed.

I licked Jeffree as I sat next to him with my body slightly heated, “Your tongue is like a cat’s….” he commented softly.

He looked exhausted, “Are you sure Jeffree hasn’t broken any bones?” I wondered.

“He healed by himself it looks like,” my father replied, “I helped it along while you were unconscious, but he has remarkable recovery capabilities, which shows that his power to heal others is remarkably strong.”

I returned to my proper form, the sensation pleasurable, “Father, why are you here?”

“I have been researching the creatures that live here, unfortunately I didn’t find anything useful,” Mist replied.

“Just like me, they were worthless as well, huh?” I wondered viciously.

“Jayy, my beloved son, please come to under-“ Mist began.

“NEVER! And don’t you dare touch Jeffree,” hissed Jayy as he kneeled down and picked up Jeffree in his arms.

“Jayy! Wait!” Mist shouted as he walked off.

Jayy hurried off, ignoring him, he found a tree far away, and sat by it, falling asleep and dreaming of times long past.

“Daddy, look!” Little boy Jayy ran forward to his father, who slapped the boy as soon as he arrived.

“You are not to call me ‘daddy’ you little brat!” Jayy’s father growled.

“Sorry, father,” Jayy was ashamed.

Jayy’s mother came out into the sunny yard with lemonade and turkey sandwiches. Her face was blurry in the dream, as though something was preventing him from seeing it, “Hello, son.” Her voice was mechanical, as though someone didn’t want him to hear her true voice.

The dream shifted to Jayy screaming, he was strapped to a chair with needles in his arms crying and screaming while the chamber he was in echoed, making his screams louder. The six year old boy writhed and suffered, “Jayy!” It was Jeffree’s voice, “Jayy!”

I opened my eyes,  “Jeffree, are you… alright?”

“I’m more worried about you, Jayy,” Jeffree whispered, his voice hoarse, “You were screaming in your sleep.”

Jayy stared at him, closing his eyes again, “Yes, I’m alright,” he whispered, not realizing how much of a lie that was.
