Last night's events of the break-in at Danielle's house had caused much terror to the two girls. Eleanor had told Dani that they would both be staying at El's flat until everything was resolved. The house was still a mess, broken glass scattered all around from the intruders. It made no sense as to why someone would break into a house only to trash the place. The identity of the intruders was still a mystery, and there were no signs of forced entry in any other house in the city that whole week.
The Thursday afternoon in London was surprisingly warm, with the sun shining out around the clouds more than usual. Eleanor sat on the bed in her room, talking on the phone with Louis.
"Yeah, I'm feeling alright today." Eleanor spoke, her voice groggy. "Trust me, I'm more than okay."
"Okay...I'm sorry. I just worry about you a lot." he admitted. "Is Dani there with you?"
El held the phone closer to her ear. "No, she went out this morning to go look for some replacement supplies to go in her house. The intruders ripped the chandelier from the ceiling and it all burst into a million pieces on the floor in the den..."
"My God, that's horrible. You sure you're alright staying by yourself while she's gone?" he asked frantically.
"Yes, yes, Lou." she smiled.
"I'm just saying, I don't want anything to happen. If someone is out to hurt either of you girls, I feel like it's my duty to stop it." Louis responded.
"Well everything is okay. We can take care of ourselves. Plus, you can't come here anyways because of rehearsal." she pointed out.
Louis sighed on the other end of the line. "I know...I'm sorry..."
"It's okay, I was just teasing you." she laughed. "Well, I'm gonna go hop in the shower. You boys have fun at the charity concert tonight, yeah?"
"Alright, babe. Be careful. I love you." he smiled.
"I love you too, Louis." she said, hanging up the phone.
Eleanor tossed her phone over beside her on the bed with a sigh. She stood from the bed and as soon as she did, a sharp pain jolted through her back. She gasped and sat back down at the edge of the bed, breathing slowly. The pain from the cancer was becoming even more apparent, and as much as she wanted to, she couldn't avoid it.
With more easiness, she stood from the bed and made her way to the bathroom. Turning the knob, she let the water flow from the shower head until it was nice and warm. Her body ached as she stepped in, but she shook it off as the hot water hit her skin. She closed her eyes and let the water run through her hair. Though it was steaming hot, it seemed to soothe her.
After washing her body, she grabbed the shampoo and lathered her hair. As she began to rinse it out, strands of hair began to fall out and go down the drain without even catching her notice. More and more hair lightly flowed out as she let the water run through it. With her eyes still closed, she reached the knob and turned the water off. She stood in the shower and squeezed her hair, ringing out the excess water still in it. She pulled her hands away, then realized that there was an unusual amount of hair caught in her fingers.
Her eyes widened and she gasped, shocked to see that so much of her hair had come out. She slung it down on the floor of the shower and stepped out, frantically grabbing a towel. She wrapped the towel around her and walked up to look into the mirror. Swiping away the residue, she cleared the mirror until she could visibly see herself.
Her body was still dripping wet from the shower, but she didn't acknowledge it. Instead, she picked up a brush from the sink counter in front of her. Easily, she brushed through her hair to see what the outcome would be.
