Prologue
"Wait for me!" A boy yelled.
He was chasing a girl- no, a woman- through the light forest. The sun shined on the long wavy blonde hair that followed her as she darted through trees in a straight line. The wind she created with her speed meant that branches and leaves rustled ever so slightly. It was a wonder how her hair never once got caught in a branch that was sticking out. Or that she never once tripped or faltered in her step. She was barefoot, but the ground didn't seem to affect her soft feet. The dirt never clung to the bottom of her feet. It was as if she was floating, gliding even, and not running. Her features seemed soft from the back, but the boy chasing her already knew what her front looked like. He had it memorised, nd every inch was ingrained into his memory.
But it was not a boy chasing her.
It was a man.
His dark hair continuously swept in front of his vision, falling in front of his steel-grey eyes, but failed to cloud his vision. His muscular, long legs moved at an incredible speed, but not fast enough to catch up with the beautiful girl. It was unusual for him to be at a slower speed than he was used to. Nonetheless, he still continued to chase that girl. Something in him persisted, willing him to chase her. He had no clue what it was, yet it was important for him to go after her for some reason.
"Wait! Hold on!" He sprinted after her, but he was getting tired very quickly. "Slow down!"
He was panting, trying to increase his speed, and failing all the same. She only giggled and sped up. Her laugh was intoxicating to him, and he wished he could hear that laugh more. She only laughed at him when he wished for her to stop, she never spoke to him.
And what only made the situation even more unusual for him was that his exhaustion was getting the better of him. It was an unfamiliar feeling for him, to be this exhausted.
"Wait! Come back!" He slowed down, hoping that perhaps she had listened to him.
But it was unknown as to whether or not she had heard him. She certainly hadn't listened to what he wished of her. Instead, she continued until she was out of his sight for good.
"STOP!" He had fully stopped, out of breath, but she hadn't heard him shout at all.
And just like that, she was gone.
Gone once again, just like before...

It's funny how in just one moment, one blink, one breath of air, and one word: How your life can change forever.
I used to think there was this great thing out there waiting for me. I used to dream of this wonderful life. A life where I'd find that special someone. That we'd fall in love with each other. That we'd have the most normal life that we possibly could. You know, we'd have kids and stuff like that. We'd grow old together, married and the happiest couple in the world. Soulmates for life and all that jazz.
At least, that's what I had once hoped for.
"Have you seen this person? She has been missing for the past two years. Please, help us find her. It's important that she returns home. Everyone is worried sick about her."
But obviously, this great, big, wide world isn't so great after all. It's quite dull, actually. Despite orbiting around a light ball of gas we call a sun, all I feel and see in this world is darkness.
Pure and total darkness. There is no light in this world.
Not anymore.
"So fire away..."
In fact, forget what I just said.
I need to start from a place that makes the most sense to me. And hopefully, it will make sense to you.
The very beginning is not the place to start this. Instead, I should perhaps start from somewhere just before everything changed. That should make the most sense.
Because in this world, in my world, there is little that makes sense to me.
"Goodbye."
