Flashback

I'm stuffing my backpack with the only few shirts and jeans I have. I can't stand this place anymore. I'm tired of waiting for someone to "rescue" me. The other kids here still have hope that someone will come and adopt them and I hope they will. But for me, that will never happen. Being the oldest one here makes me expired. No one wants a grown teen.

The door suddenly opens to my room that I share with five other kids.

"Stop acting ridiculous, Eve!" My foster mom spits. I can't stand her face. She disgusts me. All she cares about is the money she gets for "taking care" of us. She neglects all of us. The only reason she wants me here is to do her job for her.

Ignoring her I zip my bag and throw it across my shoulder.

"EVE!" She screams startling me.

"What?" I grit my teeth glaring at her.

"You know I love you. Even if I don't show it all the time. You mean everything to me." She says lying through her teeth.

I look up at her snorting. She's so funny sometimes.

"Are you really going to leave the kids like this? You know I can't do this on my own. They depend on you." She says sadly trying to guilt me into staying. I already bid them my goodbyes and they encouraged me to leave.

"Good thing they have a foster mother to depend on instead." I say taunting her with a grin while I bend down to tie my loose shoelace.

"Listen here, EVE!" She says gritting her teeth and grabbing my hair pulling me up.

"I worked too hard for this. So you are going to stay here and behave." She says dropping her nice act. Reminding me of her crazy side. I look up at her to see the white powder under her nose.

Sinking my nails in her arm she lets go and spits in my face.

"You'll regret doing that." She says crazy smiling at me. My heart beat races and I decide that this is time to go.

"Thanks for nothing." I tell her sweetly and walk to the doorway to leave the house.

Police sirens are heard. They sound so close. Running up to the living room window I see two police cars pulling up.

"What the hell?" I think out loud confused.

"I called the police. You aren't going anywhere. Oh and look nail marks to prove you are crazy and abusive." She says lifting up her arm and showing me the nail marks I gave her when she pulled my hair.

"It's okay I have a good heart I'll let them keep you here." She laughs while wiping the white dust from under her nose. As if her bloodshot eyes wouldn't give her away.

I glare at my foster mother Rachel. All she does is smile at me menacingly.

Hearing the police doors shut I run back to my room and start to freak out. I have to leave.

"Just give up already. Either way you are screwed." Rachel tells me rolling her eyes.

Like I'll ever listen to what she has to say. Deciding that running is my only chance, I open the window in my room and I am finally grateful that this house is so small and a one story house. I drop my bag on the floor and jump out the window afterwards.
