The Hydra base was full of activity but in one room a girl lay on a small little bed in the corner of a glass cell.
Her brown hair was a tangled mess and she wasn't even sleeping, she was unconscious.
There was a buzzing noise as the door to the cell opened and two guards walked in. They picked up the girl, dragging the girl to her feet.
She groaned a little as regained consciousness and blinked her eyes a little, trying to keep them open.
Her groggy blue eyes getting used to the dim lighting of the hallway.
The guards silently dragged the girl to another room and put her in a light metal chair in the middle of the room.
"You know, Wanda and Pietro already have their abilities, but you don't. Do you know why that is?" A man asked as he walked towards the girl.
The man was bald with a thick accent. He was an average height but he walked like he was the tallest one in the room, even if he wasn't. He demanded the attention from everyone and wouldn't take it if one person didn't give him attention because he was the one who was running the show. His name was Strucker. Hydra's number one thug.
The girl was trained not to speak unless spoken to, and even when she was spoken to there were times where they didn't want her to speak.
"It's because you're weak. I told you I was going to help you, to make your life better. You believed that, but now you don't, now you fight the treatment. I want to know why. So today we are going to try something different." The man said and put his hands on the armrests of the chair the girl was in.
The girl lifted her head slowly and looked at the man.
"So do you agree that we should increase the level of intensity of your treatment?" He asked and the girl nodded a little as she continued to look at the man. She stood her ground as much as she could but was still terrified of him.
The girl as then strapped down in the chair. Her wrists strapped to the arms of the chair, her legs tied tightly to the legs of the chair and her torso was tied tightly to the back of the chair.
She was knocked unconscious by Stucker and he stood back and took a moment to think of what exactly to do to her.
"Give her the injection." The man said and the guards complied with his order.
The girl woke up and shook her head to get her wits with her.
She looked at the man and he smiled.
"What is your name?' The man asked.
"Project Z." The girl responded.
The man nodded.
"Good job, up the dosage. Oh and don't knock her out this time." He said and the guards nodded as he walked closer to the girl.
The guards started the treatment.
The girl screamed and screamed but it didn't faze the guards. She begged and pleaded, but still the guards didn't stop the treatment and the guards didn't flinch when she tried to get out of the bonds. They had done this dozens of times before, only this time she was conscious for it.
Strucker had walked out of the room to deal with another issue, leaving the guards to deal with her.
Hours later Strucker walked back in.
"Get her back to her cell and then go to the control room. We have a problem." He said sternly and walked back out.
The guards unstrapped her from the chair and had to carry her out of the room and back to her cell.
They threw her down onto her cot and she crawled away from them as they walked back out, locked the cell door and walked back to the control room.
The girl hid in the corner and curled up in a ball as she started to cry silently.
Pain was coursing throughout her body and she could barely move without pain coursing through her entire body.
As she was crying she heard explosions and gunfire outside of the compound walls.
She looked out the high window across from her cell.
The window was small but it was big enough for her to see what was going on.
She heard a thunderous roar and she shrunk back against the wall again.
The next thing she saw was a red, white, and blue disk skid to a halt right by the window, and a red cape flying around.
A blonde man picked up the disk and bent down to look through the window.
He scanned the room quickly but didn't see the girl hiding in the corner of her cell. The room just looked like an empty room with a couple of cells in it.
There was more gunfire in the distance and he took off running.
She saw that face before, the news, or maybe Strucker said something about him.
The girl searched her memory and it finally dawned on her.
The Avengers. They're here, fighting Strucker and Hydra.
She had seen news of them fighting battles and saving cities and countries but this time they were fighting to get it and fighting to look for something.
The explosions got closer and the next thing she knew an explosion hit the building and the walls crumpled. The glass around the cell shattered and the girl screamed as she covered her head.
The dust settled and some stones fell and settled.
The girls ears were ringing and it took a minute for her ears to return back to normal. When she could finally hear again two sets of footsteps echoed through the crumpled room.
The girl uncovered her hair and saw that stones had fallen around her but didn't hit her. She didn't focus on that much because she was more focused on the people who were walking into the room, hoping it wasn't Strucker.
"Damn Stark...he blew this place to hell." A female voice said and a male voice grunted in agreement.
The girl peeked out of the ruble and saw that two of the Avengers had entered the room.
The man looked around the room and walked over to where the girl was.
"Well I don't know how but someone survived." He said and kneeled down in front of her.
"Hey there, are you injured?" He asked softly and the girl shook her head but stayed silent. "My name is Bucky, she's Natasha. We're here to help you. What's your name?" He asked as the woman walked over to them.
The girl didn't answer, afraid she was going to get hit. She didn't know who these people were, but she did see his metal arm and had heard stories of an assassin with a metal arm.
"It's okay, you don't have to tell us." The woman said and looked at Bucky. "We gotta get you out of here. This room isn't sound and it might collapse on us." The woman said and Bucky nodded in agreement. He stood up and offered the girl his hands to get up but she didn't take them.
She stood up on her own and followed the two out of the room and into the cold dusk.
