I rolled my eyes and started walking toward the familiar little, brick building. Totally ignoring the fact a creep just threated me, I unlocked the door and grabbed a broom.
Soon enough, I started humming "Rock Me" and the next thing I knew, my broom was the microphone and the empty bakery was my stage.
"I used to think that I was better alone, why did I ever want to let you go?!" I sang at the top of my lungs.
I swung the broom around, jumping and slamming into something or a someone.
I looked up and my eyes met Mr. Brown's. I gulped, "S-sorry, Mr. Brown. It was an accident..."
He stared down at me and shook his head, grabbing my hand and pulling me up and walking away to his office. I looked around and picked up the broom, finishing my job and sitting the broom back in the corner it came from. Then, I walked to the kitchen and looked for my order papers in my mail slot. I looked around in it and saw nothing.
"Uh, Mr. Brown, I don't have any order papers." I shouted so he could hear me in his office.
I heard him stand up, listening as his clunky shoes hit the wood floor and walk into the kitchen. He gave me two papers without saying a word, and walked back to his office. I turned toward the table, leaning against it and reading the papers.
"Just a little cake? This outta be easy." I said to myself.
I wandered around the kitchen, grabbing ingredients and the pans, laying them across the table and hanging the order paper on the hook above the table. I added the ingredients into the bowl and began throwing ingredients in the bowl and starting to stir. I then heard the front door open and someone walk in.
"I'll be with you in a second!" I yelled out to the front, laying the mixing bowl down and wiping my hands on the apron and walking to the counter. I met familiar blue eyes and smiled.
"Oh hi Josephine. What brings you here?" I asked sweetly.
She looked around nervously and cleared her throat. "I ordered a cake from here..." she said.
I nodded, "I'm making it right now, it'll be done in a little while. Have a seat if you want."
She nodded and sat down at a booth in the back, drinking some coffee she must've got while she was walking here. I jogged back to the kitchen and finished the stirring, pouring the mixture into a circle pan and putting into the oven. I wiped down the table and sat on a stool, staring at the oven. I heard Mr. Brown's voice in the front.
"Josephine Malik, right?" he asked.
Josephine MALIK?, I thought.
I quietly walked to the door and hide behind it. I peeked around the edge of the doorframe and listened.
Josephine stood up and held out her hand, "Yes, I'm Josephine Malik. Nice to meet you, Mr. Brown."
He took her smaller hand in his and shook it. "Your cake should be ready in 5 minutes if Destiny started when I think she did."
I jumped as the oven buzzed, letting me know that the cake was done. I jogged back to the oven and took the cake out, putting it on the table. Mr. Brown walked into the kitchen and stopped in front of me.
"You go talk to Miss Malik and I'll ice the cake, Destiny. Your icing skills need work and this cake can't look crappy." he snapped at me, taking the cake and moving it to his side of the table.
I slowly nodded, frowning slightly and walking back to talk to Josephine. She was on her phone as I sat down in front of her and gave her a simple smile. She looked up from her phone and smiled back.
"Hi Destiny. Is the cake almost finished?"
"Um, yeah. Mr. Brown's putting the icing on now." I said, playing with my nails.
She nodded and turned her attention to her phone. I looked around and after a couple of minutes, Mr. Brown came out with the cake in a box.
I let out a breath and watched Josephine stand up.
"Thank you, Mr. Brown. I'll certainly come here a lot." she smiled.
He grinned, "That's great, Miss Josephine. Have a great day."
She nodded and waved a small goodbye to me and walked out of the door. I sat at the booth, waiting for Mr. Brown to say something.
He cleared his throat. "I have to go to a wedding later, so I'm closing up shop early. You can go home." he said.
I nodded and got up, putting my headphones in and walking outside. Thye wind blew harder against me and little snowflakes started falling down in front of me. I sighed and walked with my head down, not paying attention to the people around me, until someone ran into me.
I grunted and jerked my head up, looking up at a slightly familiar face. The boy squinted at me and his eyes grew wide. He smirked and three other boys stepped out from behind him. Then I remembered.
Those are the boys from this morning...
The boy in the blue jacket cracked his knuckles and moved closer to me. "So you're Miss Allen, hmm?" he asked.
I inched back and swallowed. "Yeah, what's it to ya?"
The boy in the yellow jacket spoke up, "You know our friend Eric, right?"
Eric.... Eric is the creepy guy from the train! Oh sh-
My thoughts were cut short by four boys lunging forward at me. I ran away as fast as my legs could carry me, spinning around people and turning every which way, trying to loose them. But I couldn't.
"Come back here, Allen!" one shouted.
I breathed harder and fastened my pace, turning between two buildings, ramming into one of the boys who was wearing a red sweatshirt.
I landed on my butt and looked up at him. With every ounce of strenght I had, I kicked his knees and stumbled up, looking at my surroundings. Suddenly, I whipped my head around and saw a fire escape ladder, leading up to a window to an apartment.
As I climbed up the metal ladder, I looked down and saw the blue jacketed boy under me. He had a smirk on his face as he grabbed my boot and gave it a hard pull. I screamed and fell backwards on the concrete, sending my phone out of my pocket. I reached for it to call for help, but one of them stepped on my wrist, stopping me. I tried to scream for help, but my voice was silenced by the blue jacket boy slapping me. They all laughed and snickered as they took turned hitting my face, stepping on my arms and legs, and pulling my hair as hard as they could. After a while they stopped, and two of them pulled me up by my arms onto a brick wall.
I let my head fall to the ground, letting them know they won and I was hurt and ,quite possibly, broken.
The boy in the blue jacket jerked up my head and looked in my eyes. "You are one wimpy, useless little girl, aren't you? I'm surprised Eric likes you." he spat.
I gritted my teeth but said nothing, not only because I was unsure if I could talk, but I didn't want to say something stupid and get hurt some more.
One other boy spoke up, "Yeah, I bet you didn't listen because you thought he was kidding. He's a truthful guy, Miss Allen."
I looked at him out of the corner of my eye and glared, only to drop my head again.
The boys holding my arms let me go and I slid down the wall as they walked away, leaving me alone, out of breath and unable to help myself. A pain shot through my leg and I grabbed my ankle, feeling an out-of-place bone. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as I held my ankle, not able to cry for help.
"H-he-help..." I cried as loud as I could, but it only came out as a whisper, "Hel-help..."
