We were asked to write a valedictorian speech. At first I absolutely did not want to write one, because the first thing that popped into my head were sappy and cliché. Don't get me wrong, yes there is some truth to it. But I don't want people yawning because they heard the same thing over and over again. I want this years speech to be different to have a purpose a meaning.
Ladies and gentlemen this is your graduating class of 2016. They've spent 10 years of their life here. I haven't, 6 , I've been here for 6 years. From grade 3 to now. When you picture yourself as a little kid about to start at a new school for the third time, you can imagine the fear that went through my head. Thoughts like "will they like me?" " am I going to fit in?" Or the question I ask every single time I went to a new school. Am I going to stay here till I graduate? The first two times no, so did I think I was going to stay here till I graduate, no. Yet here I am standing in front of you. Delivering this speech.
As the years moved on, I continued to do nothing. To shy, or it wasn't my thing. In grade 5 my sister got a form for cross country, she had 2. She told me that ms._____ wanted me to try out because I wade quote on quote "pretty fast".  I laughed at the thought me, fast not a chance. I could go on about that year, but I would much rather talk about this year. Ready, Set and there was the horn. I hate that part. I ran as fast as I could. Top 20... I think I was in the top 20.
That was, until I vomited. Chela, who was behind ran by my side. She told me to stop or else I would pass out. I distinctly remember saying to her, no. I don't care if I come in last place. I just want to finish. Determination is what got me through. I think that's something we need to remember, as long as you have determination you can accomplish anything.
They teach us that if we have responsibility, independence, self- regulation, initiative, collaboration and organization. That we can be successful in life. It's the skills we need but that's just the beginning.
Life's not easy, as soon as you think it is it comes back to slap you across the face. We learn things the hard way. Trust me people will try to knock you down but as Miranda sings has said "haters back off". I noticed a lot of you guys were taking photos, take lots because you're only going to get uglier from here.
I remember how we used to play manhunt, almost every single recess since grade 6. When it was really sunny and hot, and we decided to sit in the shade. Grade 6 where we preformed to a song that's probably obnoxious today. All of the bus rides, where we sing loudly, that may have caused a few headaches. It's amazing to see how you all matured and grown to be individual and unique. I'm glad to not only call you my friend, but my family.
I'd like to thank all the families who dedicated their time to see us graduate. Teachers, on behalf of the grade 8's, I'd like to thank you, for setting up our foundation in education, helping us in times of needs, and getting us started in facing the real world. Mr. Principal with always telling us yes we can, and yes we've done it. We've accomplished something great. Any coaches of the sports teams, who believed it's not about the win, but about the hard work you put into trying. Most of all, all of the graduates, for making these 6 years great, they move on to bigger and better things. If like everyone to take a look around because these people are the future doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, dancers, singers and burger flippers.
It's close to an end but I want to leave you with 4 important things. First off, you see gum on the street. Leave it there. It isn't free candy. You know what they say if at first you don't succeed......skydiving isn't for you. Live life to the fullest, the world is your oyster, I have no idea what that means but yolo why not. And just know that if Donald trump can become president than anything is possible. It was nice doing time with you. Thank you.
