My tutoring sessions with James have taken place routinely underneath a shady tree on a hill overlooking the lake just before lunchtime. Just my luck, the tutoring sessions have been just that. He seems to be perfectly happy with Catalina Davies, third year Beater on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. I, on the other hand, have fallen into a slum of sorts. Rose, and my teachers, have noticed of course. Reluctant to admit my jealousy, I am consistently brushing off comments and inquiries of my well-being.
One very disappointing result of my slum is my lack of magical abilities, even more so than before. Even when I am frustrated, I cannot produce sparks. I've looked it up in the library, and, in theory, wands will produce sparks if even Muggles wave them around enough. I go back to my original question: Is it possible that Hogwarts sent an acceptance letter to an ordinary Muggle?
My lack of skills has not gone unnoticed by my fellow students. Cosette Goyle, second-year Slytherin in my Potions class, never misses an opportunity to drop a little sly comment, or when her wit runs out, she'll just hiss, "Squib..." . Being the idiot I am, I went to look up what exactly a Squib was. Apparently, a Squib is a Muggle born of two wizard parents. Figuring this out has egged on my curiosities on my parentage, so I went to the library during my very limited amount of free time.
So far, after searching for approximately nineteen hours altogether, my results have been that Hannah Abbot and Seamus Finnigan were in Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, respectively, fought in the legendary Battle of Hogwarts, and they left in 1997. I know if I brought Rose in she'd have my entire family tree in a matter of minutes, but I feel like this is my project, and it's fairly personal for me.
What with "my issues and struggles with harnessing my magic", as Professor Longbottom prefers calling it, Cosette Goyle breathing "SQUIB" down my neck, James and his precious Catalina Davies, his blatant disregard for my subtle flirting, and to top it all, finals coming up and I am failing half my classes, I would say I've "bitten off more than I can chew". That phrase doesn't quite fit, however, because it implies my problems were somewhat direct results of bad judgement on my part. Given my way, I'd go back in time, ignore that letter from that alien school, and go about my then normal lifestyle.
