I must have been out for hours because my limbs where stiff and i was soaked in melted snow. Slowly I opened my eyes and could see the last rays of the setting sun on the trees above me.

"What the heck happened too you?" a voice to my right said coming over to me. "I...err...I'm not to sure..." I said sheepishly as the guy who'd spoken helped me up. I felt like jumping back onto the ground and hiding away, but i resisted the urge. Darn this was embarrassing! I turned around to face my 'finder' too discover it was Jay. Someone up there must really hate me.

"I thought you said you didn't know about the woods!" I said quickly. It was his turn to look like a fool. "I didn't know until you told me at school today, remember?" damn it! He is making my feel like some idiot instead of him being an idiot. Garr!! "oh i did didn't i?"

"yea you did" he confirmed. "this isn't your day is it?!

"defiantly not!" I laughed. In truth this was the most mixed up day in my life.

Looking at my watch i panicked and yelled a farewell behind me as i followed the ribbons back home. I was 1 and a half hours late! How long had i been out for? I reach the edge of the woods and raced into an empty house. No one was home. At least someone should've been home at this hour! but the old house was cold and unwelcoming. I stood at the doorway, something was wrong.

My note still sat on the table, the fire had died long ago in the fireplace. Tears began to pool in my eyes. The house hadn't been this quiet since my parents died. Five years had past and everyone always kept busy and at least one of us were in the house every few hours if just to keep the fire going. Dread filled my heart. What had happened? What could be more important then keeping the house and it's happy spirit alive? That spirit was like the memory of my parents.

"no your just jumping to conclusions" I muttered to myself. I went over to the fireplace and attempted to get other going again. The flame wouldn't catch. After several long minutes I gave up and sat there crying. Someone was hurt I could feel it. I dragged myself to my room and got dressed. I turned on some lights and the tv so the house would seem less eerie.

As I walked down the hall to the lounge room, the phone rang, making me jump before I ran to answer it. It was my sister. I could barely understand through her sobs. "calm down and tell me again slowly this time" i tried to sooth her.

"I thought something happened to you as well when you didn't pink up the phone! I an so glad your okay. Joel was attacked by a massive dog, someone said it was a wolf! but his alright, everything is alright." she told me that they were still at the hospital and that Joel would be staying there for the night and that she and Heath would be home soon.

I put down the phone and the prints in the snow came back to me. I still didn't understand it. Why did the dog attack my brother? Maybe it was a German shepherd that bit him? They where big powerful dogs and people think they look like wolves. I had alot of things to look into, too many things.

After half an hour my sister and brother came home and told me about how Joel was and that none of us should worry about him. Rosemary cooked us some steak and vegies for dinner and before to long I was trying sleep in my single bed. I got up and walked to my window, making the glass fog up from my breath. I wiped away some of the fog from my window and gave a small gasp as I saw the wolf sitting at the edge of the forest watching me intently. The air around it was misty then the mist cleared quickly and it started over again, in time with the wolf's chest.

The wolf suddenly pricked it's ears and turned tail, racing back into the woods. I stayed by the window for awhile, wondering if the wolf would return but it didn't. Disappointed i closed the curtains and went to bed.
