Working It Out

(Brady's POV)

Jessica and I walked down the beach, hand in hand. As we reached the perfect spot, I put down the picnic basket and laid out a blanket. We both sat down and I started setting the picnic. I couldn't believe I was actually on a real date with a girl, a real girl! And on the top of it all, the girl happened to be Mikayla's cousin! Talk about coincidence, right?

I actually found myself falling for Jessica ever since I saw her the first time, I just didn't know that. And after what happened last night, I realized that I really, really liked her. It might seem crazy, I know, but it's just how I felt. But maybe it was just another crush, like Mikayla, although I wasn't sure if Mikayla was just a crush, because to be honest, there was something special about her. But enough about Mikayla, she didn't like me anyway. Now the only girl that I cared about was Jessica.

"So how long are you staying on Kinkow?" I asked her during our conversation we were currently having.

"One week, sadly," she sighed. "Wait. What will happen to us then?"

"Is there us?" I asked with a hope in my voice.

"I hope so," she said, smiling. "But only if you want to, because if you don't, it's totally-"

I cut her off. "Jessica, will you be girlfriend?"

She giggled, "I would totally love to."

She then placed a small kiss on my cheek which made me grin like a total idiot. I couldn't believe it was actually happening. I had a girlfriend! This was probably the best day of my life. No doubts!

(Mikayla's POV)

I just finished my guard patrol and was about to head back to the castle, but I changed my mind and decided to go to the beach instead. I usually went there when I needed to clean my mind and collect my thoughts, like I did now.

No, I couldn't be mad at Jessica, but I wanted to. She was kissing my boyfriend for goodness sake! I mean... okay, Brady was not my boyfriend. And he probably never will. I sighed. Why did everything have to be so complicated?

As I was thinking about this whole thing and just walked without realizing where I was heading, I finally saw where I was when I spotted two people sitting on a blanket that looked strangely familiar to me.

Of course, of all the people on this island, it had to be them.

Ugh, are you kidding me? I thought, crossing my arms. Brady, why would you do this to me? Oh wait, did she just kiss his cheek? Oh no, she did not!

Anger was boiling inside me as my hand flinched into a fist. I don't know what was happening to me, but I felt like I could hit someone in their face at the moment. This feeling inside me was inexplicable.

Wait, was I jealous?

Whatever I was, I knew one thing; I was so getting Jessica for that. I didn't care that she was my cousin. I've had enough of this. I immediately turned around and started heading back to the castle, thinking about my revenge.

(Brady's POV)

"Do you think it can work?" Jessica asked with another sigh.

I nodded, "Yes, we can call, e-mail, video chat..." I counted on my fingers. Jessica and I were talking about our relationship after she goes back home. To be honest, I was sad that she had to leave so soon, but there was nothing much I could do about it. Expect to ask her to stay here. But I didn't know if she would want to, I mean, New Jersey was her home, not Kinkow. I was just determined that I was going to spend as much time as possible with her while she was here, that was for sure.

"I don't know, Brady..." Jessica looked down at her lap. "Long distance-relationships never seem to work and I just don't want to lose you."

I lifted her chin with my index finger to look into her piercing green eyes that showed sadness at the moment. I didn't like seeing her sad her like that. "Hey, it's okay, we can work this out," I whispered softly. Whoa, where did this come from? I mean, I've never acted so... gentle before. Have I? I guess Jessica had some kind of an effect on me. And I'm actually glad that she had. It felt nice, very nice.

"Brady..." Her eyes bored into mine. I could see a small smile forming on her lips.

I smiled as well.

(Jessica's POV)

"I'm really lucky to have you, you know?" I grinned at Brady as my mood brightened a bit. He was just so amazing. I can't believe how sweet he was to me, it was almost unbelievable. I didn't even deserve that!

Brady chucked, "I should be the one saying that."

"Aww," I cooed. Isn't he amazing? Wait, I already said that, didn't I? Well, whatever, I'm saying nothing but the truth!

Brady then looked at me with a serious expression on his face. He put his hand on my right cheek and caressed it gently. "Trust me. We'll make this relationship work, okay?"

I nodded, smiling. "Okay."

After that we spend the next following hours talking, cuddling and maybe even sharing a few kisses. When it was starting to get dark, we decided it would be the best to head back to the castle before someone started to wonder where we were. We packed the leftovers from the picnic along with the blanket and hand in hand started making our way back to the castle.

(Brady's POV)

As soon as Jessica and I arrived back to the castle, I suggested that we could have a movie night. She happily agreed and told me she was going to change and that she would meet me in Boomer and I's room afterwards. I just nodded in agreement before she left to her room and was about to go upstairs too, when something, or should I say someone, kind of stopped me from doing that.

"Hey Brady," I jumped when I heard the voice behind me. I turned around just to see Mikayla who was smirking for some reason.

"Uh, Mikayla, hey," I greeted her as well. "What's up?"

"Oh, nothing much," she shrugged. She then took a few steps towards me and took my hands with hers. I looked at our laced fingers, shocked, before looking back at Mikayla, realizing her face was just a few centimetres from mine. I could feel her breath on my lips as she started to lean in slowly. I froze. Was she...

"Mikayla, what are you–"

But before I could finish my sentence, Mikayla's lips were on mine.
