I suppose I should start by saying, yes that is me on the cover of this work, can't really see me but, no I am not Indian/ Arabic, I am a Latina.
Great! Now that we got that out of the way, I should tell you why I'm even qualified to give advice. Well for starters, my book is almost at 1M reads, so I must be doing something right? I'm currently rewriting so it will be the best thing I have ever created. I have been on WP for about four years now? I've seen it all, trust me. I also happen to have a good reputation on WP, I think I've only received one negative comment and it's still there because I am not ashamed of it. I actually laughed when I read it, but that might just be a me thing.
Anyway, I don't think anyone really can give advice that works all the time, but if you work hard and actually enjoy writing, things will work out.
All my readers know that I am #TeamVampire and yet I have an eight book long werewolf series. Crazy, right?
In my opinion, I think it helped shape my story into something better because I didn't want it to be like everyone else's version. I tried really hard to give werewolf stories a chance, but I just couldn't do it. Then I was like "ugh I bet I can write something better," not sure if I did, but it's good enough, at least this old version.
So the first piece of advice, when it comes to making your story original, is think of everything you hated in a story you read and tell yourself "my story isn't going to have any of that sh*t!"
I'm not going to spoil my work, but I hated rejection, a**hole Alphas, and ignorant female characters. That's just the start, but you get the idea.
Now you don't need to do the opposite of what you hate because sometimes a story just doesn't need it. There are so many possibilities and choices to make your story original.
I'll be the first to say, that my writing is utter crap. I wrote it in like freshman/ sophomore year of high school and it switches from first person to third to who is even talking right now, but it's original and people will just ignore it to find out what the hell is going to happen.
Not everyone is going to have perfect grammar, but if you have good characters and a good plot, you just might make something amazing.
