Sunday Morning came in fast. I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened over the phone with Melissa. I couldn’t stop thinking about Jayden. I couldn’t stop thinking about what Rachel had said on the first day back at school. What did she mean by ‘He got through you, to get to me?’
Did that mean that all those letters were fake? Did that mean that our almost-relationship would’ve been fake? My fists were tightening. The tips of my fingers were turning to white. I wanted to bash them. Both of them. I wanted to strangle them. Together, under one rope.
They made my life a misery. They had ruined my life!
I needed a long walk. Away from here. Far away. I grabbed my coat from the coat rack and put on my sneakers. I rushed downstairs and ran outside before anyone caught me.
When I went outside, the smell of the fresh, green grass hit my nose. The foggy, cold air was smooth against my skin. I jogged towards the footpath near the mailbox. Man did I need a walk or what!
After a while I realised that I had walked into the woods. I looked up to see twigs and tall trees surround. I was lost in my thoughts.
“What! How did I get in here?” I said to myself. I turned to see where I had come in from. I was lost. Actually lost!
I was trying to find my way in, when I heard some cracking sounds. I turned around and saw two bright, red eyes staring straight at me. I moved back slowly and fell over a rock. My backside hit the hard floor with a loud thump. I was scared. Really scared. I ran out as far as I could not knowing which way. The branches with the swishing leaves were hitting my face.
Further ahead, I could see daylight. My legs were aching so much that I didn’t care. The thorn tree was straight ahead of me. I was too late to duck my head so the thorns made a severe cut across my face. I felt the blood trickling down my face washing away with my tears. I quickly turned and I saw those red eyes still staring at me. It was as if I didn’t move at all. I still continued to run. I was screaming my lungs out.
I finally reached the daylight but I still ran as far as I could away from the forest. When I knew that I was far enough, I stopped and dropped down on my knees and cupped my face. The cut was stinging so badly. My face was hot with the tears and the blood.
After some time, I stood up sobbing really hard. The eyes were stuck in my head. I reached the house, opened the door and found my mum sitting at the dining table with an angry look on her face.
“Where have you bee-” She stopped immediately when she saw me crying and the cut on my face.
“OH MY GOD! CASSIE!”
She rushed into the kitchen and ran out with a bottle of face medicine and wet tissues. She dabbed some of the medicine onto my face and smoothed it with the tissues across the cut.
“OW! Mum please go easy on me!”I sobbed so hard that my face started stinging as the tissues touched the cut. The cut had started from the corner of my left eye right down to the middle of my right cheek.
“How did this happen?”
I ignored her. My mind was too busy thinking about what I had seen in the woods. What was that? Who was that?
At that very moment, Jade came strutting in the room. She was wearing a dress with her best heels. Her earrings were dangling by her ears and she poshly said,
“Rebecca is coming to pick me up. So I won’t be home by 10pm.” completely ignoring me.
“Where are you going?” asked my mum curiously.
“Oh, to that party I told you about yesterday. You said that I can go. Remember?”
“Yes but you WILL be home by 8.”
“What! My friends are staying till 11pm. So I am being thoughtful and coming back an hour early. You should be grateful.” And with that she marched out the door. My mum chased after her out the front door. I could hear the arguing and shouting outside. Man, Jade just wants trouble. She just is too up herself!
********
At around 6pm, I was in my room looking at my cut through the mirror and my mum came in the room holding a plate of cookies.
“So, honey. How are you feeling? Does the cut hurt?”
“Oh, I’m fine. It just hurts when I touch it.”
“Okay hon. just make sure you don’t touch it. Do you want some cookies?”
“Nah I’m fine.”
“Okay, well if you need anything just call me.”
When she walked out, my phone rang. I picked it up and the person at the other end of the phone said,
“Cassie, Hi, It’s Mel.”
“Umm.....Mel...?” I said, forgetting who Mel was.
“Ugh, it’s Melissa Smith. Do you always ask that when you talk on the phone?”
“Oh, I’m sorry”
“It’s fine. I just wanted to ask whether you were coming to school tomorrow.”
“Umm...Yeah why?”
“Oh just asking.’’
“Okay?”
“Anyways umm...yeah I’ll see you tomorrow then? Bye.”
“Okay, bye”
Wow, awkward. Very Awkward. Every time I talk to her I feel insecure. I have a weird feeling, like, like someone is watching me?
Thank you!
