So.
With the arrival of the train came the arrival of Sky. Not the person she used to be. Just Sky.
She looked in her pocket, her dark blue and black hair sliding across her eyes. The $79 she had left couldn't take her any further from London. So here she was. Home. Or what seemed to be California anyway.
Sliding her money back into her jacket pocket, Sky walked past the barriers and out if the doors. The air smelt of pines and was very humid. She took off her jacket, putting it into her bag, and walked to the nearest street.
After about half an hour, a very tired Sky fell back into a cab.
"Where am I taking you then," smiled the cab driver while spinning the wheel of the small car to get around a bend. Sky was thinking how nice his dark hair was when she snapped back to reality.
"Is there a coffee shop around here?" sky asked hoping her London 'posh' accent didn't come though as much as it sounded like it did.
"Err... yeah. You're not from round here are you?" Oh damn... This could be the end of Sky... she couldn't go back to London... she couldn't go back to... herself. No. Her OLD self
"Erm, well no." Was all she could say.
Sky was fiddling with her bag strap. She knew she must look suspicious but she couldn't help it.
The cab driver looked over at her and down at her constantly moving fingertips. Chuckling, he said "ah, I won't ask about it. nothing to do with me eh? So what CAN we talk about Miss secretive?"
Sky could feel herself going slightly red. 'Whoops' she thought. She glanced out if the window. The 1:30pm sun was a bright yellow and lit up the lake they were passing. "It really is beautiful here isn't it?" she said, smiling at the cab driver.
He glanced at her and said "It can be. I'm going to assume you mean America not JUST California... The whole country is quite something. Are you traveling or are you planning to stay in California?"
That's a thought. What WAS she doing? oh yes - "I'm getting coffee and looking for somewhere to stay for a while. I moved from - somewhere in England and kinda wanna move on from it... England I mean. Also... I love American coffee!"
"You'd be strange not at love our coffee! It truly is amazing." he said, longingly. Sky thought maybe it had been a while since his last break...
Sky looked from the cab driver to her window. The lake had been replaced by a lively main road, buzzing full of life. she'd never seen such an amazing street. The buildings were all tall and thin and pavements were full if people rushing to get to different destinations.
The cab took a sharp left and she was pushed into the door. "Ahhg sorry!" said the cab driver "I nearly missed the turn... Anyway my name is Ryan. you?" He sounded slightly worried as if she might know him or as if Sky didn't want to reveal her name. Giggling, she replied "I'm Sky. Good to meet you Ryan.
She couldn't help but notice Ryan was really beautiful... He had longish dark hair and was tall and thin. And then he looked at her. She could feel herself go bright red and looked back to the window.
The window was seemed more like a T.V than a window. It had changed to a setting that was small 1 story hight shops and cafés...
Another sharp turn and Ryan announced they had arrived. She was rummaging in her bag as Ryan got out... 'why was he getting out?' Sky thought and she found her money.
She got out and shit the door. Ryan locked it. 'Is he coming in with me?' she thought. I'd be great for her to have a friend in America she could trust and knew she didn't want to talk about the past. She walked up to him and handed him $20 'should be enough' she thought.
Ryan looked at it like Sky was offering him a pile of dog mess. "For the taxi ride?" she said.
"Oh-you can pay me in a coffee all that talk of them made me seriously want one!"
Sky giggled. "Ahaha okay then!"
They both walked into the coffee shop and Sky was thinking maybe her life was going to be just fine.
