"Alright Xander, we've got some stuff to discuss!" Kristin yells as she walks into Melissa and Xander's house, followed closely by Josh and Matt.

Xander come down the stairs, Melissa ready to have some help knocking some sense into Xander, and Xander ready to have his ear talked off.

"You know, we really should start ringing doorbells." Xander says.

"Why would we do that?" Kristin ask, with a soft laugh.

Josh looks at Xander with a confused gaze, "Dude, why didn't you tell me you found your mate?"

Guess we're cutting right to the chase, Xander thinks.

"It didn't matter then." Xander answers as he slumps his body further into the couch.

"Oh course it mattered! She's your mate. When did you know?" He ask.

"The first day she got here." Xander admits.

"Wow. You managed to keep it a secret for a while. And to think Luke is the one we have to thank...damn." Matt says.

"Wait if you've known for this long, why aren't you two together more?" Kristin ask.

Melissa rolls her eyes, "Because he's a dumb ass. Care to explain, Xander?"

"You said it clearly, I'm a dumbass."

Melissa's ready to argue but her brothers words register and she smirks, "Glad you agree."

Josh speaks up. "Ok what'd you do?"

"I...I was gonna just ignore the bond. Not go near her. I thought it was best."

"You idiot." Kristin says bluntly.

Xander nods, "That's another thing I am."

"Xander, you're an Alpha. Please tell me how you thought your wolf was going to let you stay away from your mate." Matt states, pointing out the obvious.

"I don't know. I thought I was making the best decision. I didn't want to drag her into the dangerous and harsh reality of being mated to an Alpha, especially me. I still don't want to, but there's no well in hell I can ignore the bond anymore."

"Oh well you had good intentions," Kristin nods, "I'll give you that. So we're good then! You ask her out and then you guys fall in love, and everything will be great!" She smiles, hope evident in her face.

"Not exactly." Xander sighs.

Kristin furrows her eyebrows together. "Well why not?"

"Because he's a dum-"

"A dumbass," Xander cuts Melissa off, "we get it."

Everyone looks at him waiting for him to explain.

"I messed up," he sighs, "I had been ignoring her for days. I didn't know she was sleeping over here when I was away, but I came home early and met her here. I guess not seeing her for days surfaced my wolf and I didn't exactly keep my hands to myself. We kissed but then I kind of...took it back."

"You what?" They all ask at the same time.

"I told her I shouldn't have kissed her."

"That poor girl. Oh my goodness." Melissa sighs, holding her chest.

"I really hurt her. I didn't mean to. I would never want her to be anything but happy. But I messed up, and I regret what I said. I made her hate me, which was the worst thing in the world to experience; the person who's made for you to want nothing to do with you. Then later, we came to amends, but she doesn't want to be with me. She doesn't want me in that way." Xander looks from his lap to the group and can see the sadness in their eyes. They all know it must be heartbreaking for your mate to not want to spend his or her life with you.
