"I love you peggy" I said looking straight in her eyes waiting for her to say it back. She looked at me smiled and then kissed me "goodnight" she said walking in to the house and closing the door leaving me speechless I drive home wondering why she didn't say it back. Maybe she didn't feel the same way. Did I say it to soon? I was up all night thinking what happen. The next day peggy was acting a little different. Everytime i would see her she would half smile and walk away and head in a different direction. Maybe this was her way of letting me down the easy way. I read all the signs wrong I really thought she loved me. The next day was the same thing. She kept on avoiding any eye contact with me. everyone was about to go home when peggy walked to my office she knocked "hello chief"
"peggy" I said standing up. my mind is racing wondering what she is going to say. " I was wondering if you would like to come over for dinner tonight"
"um yeah ...sure " I said trying not to sound nervous
" 7 o'clock"
I replied with a yes ma'am while she walked out. I show up at her house at 7.
I walk in seeing the table lit by candles my nerves starts to calm down. We start to eat but in silence I want to say something but I don't know what, I can't really ask why she doesn't love "look daniel" peggy says knocking me out of my thoughts "I'm sorry about the other day it's just it's not easy for me to say how I feel, i don't know how" she stands up and plays the radio she walks up to me "can I have this dance" I hold her close to me
"just listen to the words" oh,but I do was playing it made me smile I was about to speak "I do love you very much Daniel and I was scared because everyone I got close to left and I didn't want that to happen to you." Still dancing "Oh peggy I'm not going anywhere I am with you until the end" she looks me right in the eyes "I love you daniel" " and I love you too peggy". We slowly lean in to kiss and the last thing I hear is the song ending with - you know that it's you I love
