Do not think for one moment
That I am blind
Blind to your brighter smiles when you are with her
It was purely a flash of red
Coming out of someone else's mouth
In my castle of black and white
Those walls were built high
Guarding the lone tower
Upon closer inspection
You can see that the bricks are made of air
You blew my way one summer
And now 'tis the season again
Rain falls more often this year
Sometimes drizzling
Sometimes pouring
Sometimes neither here nor there
But there are bright blue days too
Days I whip up a coffee
And add in my own sugar cubes
Because I learned that coffee tastes better
With my own secret ingredient
On sultry days I would still think about us
Iced coffee between my teeth and throat
Mind wandering to how you and her
Is a better match than you and I will ever be
But it was just a tale
Albeit one I both want to end and keep going forever
One day I will have thousands of those
Waiting for me to unravel
